I have a large steel gate (about 10' wide), and installed this on the bottom. After a few days, the wheel rotated, and I had to reinstall it, ensuring that I really over-tightened the u-bolt nuts. The wheel is soft rubber, and on the textured concrete driveway where I'm using it, you can see little pieces of rubber flaking off from minimal use (I typically open and close the gate about 5 times a week). Overall, this wheel could benefit from harder rubber, and a different design that keeps it from slipping. If you use it on a lighter or narrower gate, or over a smoother concrete surface, it may work fine for you. Read more

Thought this wheel would be good to help hold my 16 foot gate up. I have tightened it around the gate as hard as I can without putting a bend in the gate and this wheel will not stay put. I have road base drive so it's not a flat surface. Might be better if the surface was flat. Read more

The previous homeowner installed a 3 foot high by 5 or 6 foot long gate with only a small pole to support it. Naturally it began to sag until you had to lift the gate to close or open it. It was a huge pain to get my car out. Now with the wheel it's much easier to open.I marked where it attached to the fence with a marker to see if there was any movement, and this thing hasn't budged a millimeter since I installed it. I installed it with the teeth facing up.Note, the wheel is stiff to turn. I like that as I don't want the gate swinging downhill on its own, but some people may not like that. I have bought gate wheels from another seller and those were inferior quality to these. These are excellent quality with heavy duty U-bolts.Very reputable seller, outstanding customer service. Bought gate wheels but returned twice not realizing that description that came in package from manufacturer was somewhat incorrect/misleading. Seller was smart and made additional notes in description on Amazon so as to remove confusion about what size fence/gate rail diameter would work with these. We hardly ever used our gate because it dragged on the ground and it had to be lifted and carried along. This thing was such an easy install and now the gate swings open with no problem. I chose this over the wheel assembly that mounted to the end of the gate because a wheel on the end seemed like it would get in the way of the gate closing all the way since our gate stops against the fence post. These sit high but are adjustable. If you rotate then it can actually lower by 2 inches or so - but I wanted all the weight on the wheel. I thought I would need a swivel wheel but not so. The wheel is slender enough that upon open/close it does not drag. They will be good for at least 20 years. VERY sturdy and heavy.
