I was given a "new" straight blade and right before use, I noticed something red and something clumpy (I'm an aerospace engineer and so I always inspect items before using, nature of my job follows me to my day-day functions as a result, especially when it comes to metallic objects. I inspected closer and noticed it was BLOOD + CLUMP BALL OF HAIR indicating this is a NOT A NEW ITEM, it was a previous return, and they lied by merely repackaging the returned units and it appears they dont even appear to sanitize them which is... GROSS and beyond unhygienic: What ifsomeone had an illness and someone receives the unit and contracts a severe disease of some sort when they thought it was brand new, as is in the case of my purchase? Good thing I checked BEFORE USING, and folks, I highly recommend you do the same.So for product review: Its seemingly a decent straight blade HOLDER but I will say something: Buy a GOOD one once and forget about all ur shaving needs for life! Seriously, this concept of "cheaper straight blades" is a bit of a misnomer to say the least, why?:Take out 1 gillete blade from some new age 10 blade whatever razor and then... stick it in a stainless holder. Voila! This is what they're marketing as a "straight blade" when in fact it's really not. I was also under the impression that the blades would at least be decent barber blades with some thickness but no, they use the same cheap paper thin blades that are found in all multi blade razors, perhaps even worse?All in all, im extremely upset with this order the most as the seller who reships used/returned/bloody/hairy units and then repackages them as new, very shady and quite stupid as these things can/do get bloody with use people. Like at least use a sanitizing machine which makes them like new, but no, they dont do that!Idk what's with items on Amazon these days but I've been getting MANY orders that are RELABELED USED ITEMS when I'm purchasing "NEW" products. It came on time, blades are sharp, I used it for my legs with the Tomb 45 shave gel and let me tell you honey legs are more smooth than butter. I then went on to derma planing on my face with a new blade and it was amazing, my face got a glow. I like that after I did my legs with this blade my legs feel better than when I shave with a razor. This is the first straight razor I have ever used. I started looking into getting one because my barber mentioned how much closer of a shave it is than a safety razor. Additionally he claimed that razor bumps are greatly reduced when using one (I seem to be plagued with this the last six months). I saw this and figured it’s cheap and worth a shot.I watched YouTube videos and read up on how to use a straight razor before even attempting to hold a razor blade to my neck I’m pretty glad I did. The first shave I looked like I had been in a fight with a weedeater. I bled all over, and had a couple of deep cuts. I’m not gonna lie, I was thinking about hanging up the bloody towel on the whole straight razor thing. After a few days I thought I might just try it again, see what kind of result I could get. I noticed I held it a little different, and was a little more confident in certain areas. I still bled like crazy, but not as bad. Fast forward a few weeks, I have shaved exclusively with this razor for about a month now and could not be happier. I will never go back to a safety razor. The shave is smoother, the razor burn is much less and the razor bumps are gone. I am able to get a great shave in about the same time as I did with the other razors but without all the bad after effects. I highly recommend this razor but with a little bit of advice, don’t give up, there is a learning curve but it is worth it. Read more

I was interested in switching to straight razor shaving so I bought this Equinox and a cheap fixed blade Gold Dollar in order to practice honing and stropping the blade. The Equinox is a very good product for the price. Not fancy, not beautiful but very functional. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because mine had a little issue with the alignment of the piece that holds the blades so every time you close the razor it makes contact with the scales and the edge of the blades could be damaged if not careful. This is obviously a flaw in quality control but it doesn't affect shaving performance. See attached photo for reference.Other than this, the product is absolutely great value. You can get a nice close shave for USD 10. And you get 100 blades which depending on how frequently you shave, should last you a couple of years. For 10 bucks! And then, when you run out of blades, instead of getting replacement blades (which cost like $5 for 100-count) you can just get a new razor that comes with 100 new blades and you would be getting a brand new razor for only 5 bucks. Again, amazing value!I was thinking of getting a nice German fixed-blade straight razor but after shaving with this, I can see no reason to spend $100+ on razor + another $100 on a fine-grit stone and a strop if you can get a great shave with this 10-buck razor. I bought this for my college age son for Christmas. He says the blades won't stay in! He sent me a video clip showing how easily they fall out. The blade holder appears to be tight at one end but is too loose at the other to hold the blades tight. Significantly shorter handle than other SE razors. In and of itself that might not be an issue, you could adapt to it with practice. However, the weighting is completely ridiculous. The flip out cover which is longer than the handle for some reason is nearly double the weight, which combined with the ridiculously short handle means that the weight of the flip out end is likely to cause your blade to slice in ways it should not. Build quality is nice, but a major major design fail. On a product where accuracy is paramount, this is a completely awful design. Read more

This is my first straight edge razor and I'm having a lot of difficulties to use it without cutting myself by accident most of the time. I chose the regular blades professional and they are very sharp and cut myself instantly on touch like hot knife into warm butter. The problem might come from my lack of experience; I don't know, but I just cannot use this product. My razor is perfect except for alignment within the handles. It's skewed to one side, and so pressure must be applied to open or close it in the handle. I'll either bend it to fit - or live with it as I want a tight fit when closed.I got this and the Pure wood shavette to try. The Pure Wood had a tightening screw for the handle and a cheap black plastic case which looks good. This one would benefit by those. This razor being completely of stainless is better suited to complete immersion in sterilizing agents. My main reason for getting this razor was to check balance with the stainless handle and I see no issues. It is narrower from spine to blade edge than the PW and this is a big advantage.The Derby blades are good for practice. I believe it's good advice to blunten the forward blade corner by pushing it against some harder object like a stone. Or use a nail file.. When you first use a shavette that corner is the most likely to nick you. Since the razor comes with 100 blades a person is more likely to change blades when feeling ANY tugging as a blade bluntens. That is the best precaution against getting cuts.Overall as a learning system, this is a super deal! As an expert system using sharper broken Feather double edge blades it's also super! Just watch all the YouTube videos and soften that beard using a hot wet towel for 2-3 mins! Read more

Okay so I’ll start off with the positives. This little thing feels like it’s been built to last. Feels very sturdy. Every rotating piece will only move if you want it to. I read some reviews of people saying it’s flimsy so I was a little weary, but I assure you the one I received feels great. The blades that come with the razor are also very sharp and packaged nicely which was nice.Okay negatives. My straight razor came with quite a few scratches on it. I don’t know why, perhaps it was returned and they sent it out to me which would suck. I’m not sure why else it would have come out of the package looking so rough.Secondly, there definitely is a learning curve to overcome when using these things. I cut myself literally dozens of times trying to get a clean shave with this thing. If your a beginner at this stuff, like me, just be careful while using it. The blades are extremely sharp. Trying to be a manly man doing manly shaving of his manly beard with a straight razor. But I got sick of wondering if my "real" straight razor was sharp enough. This system to the rescue! The blades are incredibly sharp, shaving is easy (though, still a skill to acquire of course). The handle is surprisingly sturdy and high-quality in feel. I don't know if the actual blade-holding mechanism will last forever, but so far it's given me no reason to doubt it. I will continue being manly with this kit, and save my manly wetstones (for manly sharpening tasks!) for my kitchen knives.Oh, and that many blades for so cheap? You could use a blade twice if you needed to, but at that price you should use a fresh one each time and still have the pack last for a long-ass time. Read more
