i didn't need a temporal (forehead) or in-ear thermometer that was filled with features such a memory or mode switching buttons, various color indicators, or fancy chimes.this Elepho eTherm infrared ear & forehead thermometer works great and fits the bill for simplicity. it features a handle that is comfortable To hold, yet has an entirely flat face to rest on a table without the worry of it rolling off.after inserting batteries in their proper orientation, all one needs to do is press the button with the thermometer icon to use. with the forehead cap on, gently hold it against the forehead, press the button to take a temperature. within a second, the sensor takes a temperature and displays it. the forehead cap features a rubber-like surface at the end, so that it will not be cold, scrape the skin, or be uncomfortable against a forehead.when using with the forehead cap on, the unit will display the head icon (it looks like a face). if the temperature is extremely low, it will display "Lo". keep in mind that this does not mean low battery.when a normal range temperature is taken, a single beep will be heard. an elevated temperature is displayed with a double beep. and a high temperature is shown with a triple beep.when "Hi" is seen, it means the temperature is above the high in temperature range.when the forehead cap is removed, it reveals a narrow sensor end that can be inserted gently into the ear canal. the display will no longer show a head icon, but instead an ear icon.the unit shuts off automatically after 8 seconds of not being used.the temperatures captured are always reasonably close to each other after repeated takes. i definitely would recommend provided you do not need fancier features. I was a little hesitant since there weren’t many reviews. I figured it was prime I didn’t have anything to lose. I’m glad I went ahead and bought It. This is such a nice little thermometer. It’s so easy to use. I’m so glad. It’s compact and fast. I bought it for my son who will be born in 5 weeks. Used on 2wk old baby and is very easy to use but gave a different temp three times in a row (within 2°) that was worrisome. After that it remained the same the next two times. Will use again soon and if that happens again I will return it. Read more

I purchased this for my 90-year old mother, so wanted something easy to use. It is perfect in that respect. You do not have to choose between F and C, you do not have to choose an age. There's just one button and that is it. Nothing to set incorrectly. that part is great. I tested it out before giving to my mother. It never registers the same reading twice, and the variances can be significant. Also, the readings are always below normal, usually around the 97 range. So, as a broad indicator of fever or lack thereof, it can serves a purpose. If it reads 98.6, I know I must have a fever. I looked through reviews of all the other competitors and it appears they are all like this, so if you want simplicity, this is the best you'll find in this price range. I am sure there are professional instruments that are more accurate but who wants to spend hundreds of dollars on a thermometer? Read more

This thermometer reads a full degree too low, whether I'm using it as an ear thermometer, or a forehead thermometer. Also, the instructions do not mention probe covers, and the diagram in the quick start guide shows that one takes the forehead cap off and puts the probe in the ear, but in the listing, it's mentioned briefly to use "commercially available probe covers". I have been unable to find their brand covers, and Thermoscan covers do not fit. I've done too much damage to the box to be able to return it. This thing gives me a different temp every time I use it and the range is huge. Forehead temp stays at the same number and hardly changes. I know I have a fever and verified it by two other old thermometers of mine. But this one would never give me the right reading. Don’t waste your money. I wanted a digital thermometer that was fast, accurate, and could easily be used on myself, not just my child. This one fits the bill, and is stylish, too! I like that it is intended to be used by touching it to my forehead (or my son's) because I don't have to guess if I'm aiming it in the right spot, and it seems more accurate when actually touching the forehead. If I want to disinfect it, I can just wipe it with some rubbing alcohol. Readings have been consistent when done right after one another. Read more

This thermometer would have been wonderful if it only worked accurately. Compared to my two oral thermometers, it was always a degree or two off. I tried it many times, both on my forehead and in my ear, it never registered correctly. I sent it back, and decided to stick to my oral thermometer! Read more
