Product Description The Eco Classica III Crib Mattress by Colgate Mattress is a 6" thick, dual firmness, foam crib mattress, with an organic cotton cloth surface that will last throughout the infant and toddler years with your eco-friendlier family. Like all Colgate Mattresses, the Eco Classica III Crib Mattress is certified by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) and meets or exceeds all applicable American Society for Testing and materials (ASTM) and Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) safety standards. From the Manufacturer The Colgate EcoClassica III is from the Colgate Cradletyme Naturals collection of eco-friendlier crib mattresses, pads, and accessories. The EcoClssica III is a high quality, lightweight (9.6 lb) , orthopedic style dual firmness Infant / Toddler foam crib mattress. The firmer supportive infant side is very firm. The less firm, more comfortable toddler side is also firm to support toddler bodies but, less firm than the infant side. Mattress fits all standard size American cribs and toddler beds. An overall 6" mattress thickness means tight fitting sheets. A certified organic cotton cover with a waterproof backing puts organic cloth closest to baby and the waterproof backing lets nothing into the mattress. Inverted seams provide for a sleek appearance. All foam in this mattress is CertiPUR-US certified to be safe, high quality foam. All foams are also eco-friendlier because they are made with (non-food) plant oils replacing petroleum based oils. The Colgate EcoClassica III mattress passes all federal and state requirements for flammability and chemical composition and has been GREENGUARD certified to have no harmful air emissions. Lastly, the mattress is made by Colgate, The Crib Mattress Specialist, who has been making mattresses and trusted by parents for over half a century.

Our son has been sleeping on this mattress for nearly a year. Up until this past week, we have had no issues. However, no liquids had spilled down the side of the mattress or anywhere that wasn't covered by an additional waterproof cover, until this week. The additional waterproof mattress cover we had on the mattress only covered the entire top of the mattress but not the sides. Sometime in the last week, our son overturned his bottle between the crib rails and it leaked its contents down the side of the mattress, unbeknownst to us. When I went to change his sheets, I discovered that the bottle had leaked, soaking the sheet, the mesh non-waterproof part of the additional cover, as well as INTO THE MATTRESS itself. The mattress was completely soaking wet, multiple layers in. Although Colgate claims it is waterproof, in our experience, it absolutely is not. Merriam-Webster defines waterproof as being impervious to water, which to me, means that liquids will not penetrate the mattress at all. This mold developed and grew to this level within 3-4 days, max. We are horrified that our son was sleeping on this molding mattress, even for a few days. For anyone buying this mattress or who has purchased one in the past- please purchase a zippered waterproof cover for this mattress to ensure that this doesn't happen to you. It scares me to think what ill effects sleeping on this mattress would have had on our son if we hadn't caught it early. This should not have happened, given how the mattress is advertised by the manufacturer. Read more
We felt overwhelmed with all the options out there for eco friendly and chemical free mattresses.A youtuber recommended this one and we did some research prior to buying this one.I don't think it's the cleanest one in the market. But we don't have $500-$600 to throw out there for a mattress like many other peeps do.For the quality standards and the price you can't beat this one! Plus it's a family owned business that's decades old. So I am super happy with this mattress. We still ended up airing it out. I can't trust anyone with their claims. Gass off and chemicals are something that I abide by after doing research and preparing for the baby. We are even airing out the nontoxic ecofriendly crib. We are airing our baby's stuff (bassinet, mattress, crib, car seat etc) for a minimum of 6 weeks. Just a simple recommendation from one future parent to the next.I definitely recommend this one! This mattress just arrived today, and frankly, I’m so disgusted. The box was in perfect condition- no damage or water stains whatsoever. But when I opened the box, I found that the whole one side of the mattress is full of water stains and black mold spots! Absolutely disgusting. The plastic it came wrapped in is intact, so I’m not sure if this is a used mattress that had gotten wet and repackaged, or what... either way, the way this mattress was received is totally unacceptable and makes me hesitant to even keep the replacement that is being sent to me. This isn’t a cheap mattress! I spent hours researching, and now I feel like I need to go back to the drawing board and find something else. Read more
I've waited a long time to write this review since I didn't want it to be immediately after getting it before my child actually slept on it.This mattress has been in the crib for close to 2 years now - it has been through scrubbings from kid throw ups, lots of jumping up and down / rolling around / etc, sheet changes, etc. It has held up VERY well over time and hasn't started to sag or have any issues. I definitely like this crib mattress and would recommend getting it.The only thing that is noteworthy is that this mattress, although being certified organic, DOES have a urethane core so if that matters a bunch to you... don't get it. I didn't care about that and got it and I haven't regretted it (also I don't have $300++ to drop on a 100% organic everything mattress, weigh the pros and cons appropriately for your own life). I’ll be honest. I was not expecting to go thru stress and research when trying to decide which crib mattress to buy for our newest family member. Every time we have got a mattress for the somewhat normal size people in the past, it was the same process. We put it off forever, and then, when we can’t take it anymore, we head to the local mattress store where we lay down awkwardly in the show room. All the while, I am sure a very nice in real life, salesperson stares at us while we try to decide in a few moments which mattress I am going to spend “a 1/3 of my life on”, right? Not very comforting and relaxing, but pretty straightforward. But now, when trying to decide for our newest, much smaller (not to mention, no offense, not very articulate) family member – it became exponentially much harder. Car seats, I could handle. I read everything I could, found the safest one I could find that would not cost as much as the first semester in college for my newest lovable, but slightly wallet-draining bundle of joy. But mattresses? How do I know it is the safest choice, the smartest choice, the most comfortable choice, and also be environmentally friendly – maybe it would be more pleasant to lay awkwardly in a store and pretend I was asleep. We looked, we read reviews, we asked around, and while we were certainly the life of every social gathering and conversation with our mattress talk, we did find some truths that I thought I should share…First, we wanted it to be safe. We kind of figured that every mattress that is on the market must be safe, or it wouldn’t be on the market – right? And I guess that is true, but like car seats, there are some pretty big differences in a product that “meets requirements” and ones that meet and exceed the requirements, certifications, etc.Second, we want it to be comfortable. Listen, when baby sleeps, life for all lifeforms in the home is much better.Third, we wanted it to be healthy for our baby and the environment. If this small mini-person is going to be in this bed all the time, we want it to be safe and comfortable, but also be made of good “stuff”- no smell, natural materials, etc.Forth, Value. Look above at comment about wallet-draining, there are a lot of things to buy for this newest, non-income producing member of the family. After all our discussions and research, we came to the conclusion that there are several good options (and lots of not-so-good-options) to choose from – and spoiler alert (not really, this is a review, after all), we picked the Colgate Eco Classica III.We looked at lots and kept coming back to the Colgate. This crib mattress business is new to us, but not to them. It is a family owned in the good ol’ USA for 3 generations. I am sure they have forgotten more about mattresses then I will ever know. (and remember, I know enough to bore people to tears, just ask me)…Safe - It checks all the marks for certification and safety (that whole meets and exceeds thing)Comfortable – ok, didn’t sleep on it personally, but (another spoiler alert), our pride and joy sleeps soundly. It is waterproof but doesn’t have any “crinkly” or “plasticky” feel. It has what they call a “Dual Firmness” design, which is actually very important (foreshadowing value conversation). Cover is made of certified organic cotton. And, We LOVE that this mattress can be flipped over to a softer side that is perfect for toddlers. No need to buy another one for a toddler bed. It is pretty sweet.Enviro-stuff – (my term, not theirs, but maybe I should trademark). The core of the mattress is made of something they call “Eco Foam”, it is made of plant oils and is a CertiPUR certified safe foam. Cover is made of certified organic cotton. No smell, no emissions (from the mattress, the baby – now that is a different story)Value –There are other mattresses with a similar feature set to the Colgate, but to get comparative comfort, durability and Eco-stuff, they seemed to all be pretty expensive. The Colgate just seemed to have everything we wanted at a decent price. It also helped knowing that Colgate is a 3rd generation crib mattress company. These people have been doing this a long time. I trust that.Ultimately, we decided on the Colgate Eco Classica III because it “checked all the boxes” – quality, safety, Environmental, and made by a company that people trust. Now, if they would just make a “adult” mattress for us, it would keep us out of the awkward mattress stores forever… Read more
