These are the same as my Vet uses on my cat as she has a tendency to get a build up of "gunk" in them. I now try and do this myself using a special ointment he suggested for them before cleaning and they are great, don't go too far into the ear canal though, I think if the Vet uses them then they are definitely good. I would not recommend it for ear wax removal but it is great to clean dog's ears out, since their ear structure is different than humans, great for makeup application and/or cleaning up an eyeliner application, removing eye shadow that has smudge on upper eye lid, and great for removing nail polish from skin. Giving this product one star because the picture of the product is not even close to what you receive.Based on the picture of the product I purchased these for swabbing/ dabbing out my dog's ears and face folds, he's a extra large dog and an avid swimmer and has floppy ears. Water tends to get stuck in the folds of his face and sits in his ears. We were using Q-Tips but wanted a bigger tip to cushion against any possible hard parts poking through as well as a longer shaft to reach some of the harder to reach places. The cotton ends are not as big as pictured and are actually thinner than a standard Q Tip and do not absorb well at all. Will not be using these as we are worried the wooden part will poke through. The wooden shaft is sturdy though, but would not buy even for application of ointments, as the tips really are very very thin. This product far exceeded my expectations. I bought these for my gun cleaning needs and most other brands I purchased were never durable, with regards to the strength of the wood. The sticks always broke with just a little pressure and many time time some force is needed to get in to the nooks and crannies.
