I LOVE this gate. I had researched for weeks and weeks before deciding to purchase two of these gates. I was needing the tallest gate out there with a wide enough opening, an auto close feature and a stay open feature. I didn’t want to always have to turn sideways when walking through with my son, but honestly it’s inevitable with any gate, unless you’re a very thin person. We’ve used them for about a month now and I have no complaints. It’s very sturdy and well built. You open it with one hand by easily sliding a button on top while pulling up at the same time. The stay open and auto close features are great, especially when your hands are full. We put both of ours downstairs to separate the living room from the kitchen and front door. It’s very easy to walk through when left open. It will loosen over time as expected with constant opening and closing, but it’s real easy to tighten. We used the Wall Nanny protectors and they work perfect with this gate. We have a really tall, large dog which is why we needed an extra tall gate. There’s no way he’s getting over this gate either. I bought this gate in addition to the 39” and 7” extensions. It seems sturdy and looks nice but was difficult to put together by myself. If it had been a smaller opening and just the gate without additional extensions it would have been a breeze to put up. But trying to keep everything together while trying to get it up was frustrating. After struggling for a bit I finally got it up and I am hoping it will stand up over time as I have a rambunctious 1 year old boy. Overall I like this gate but would recommend having someone help you hold it while putting it together.Update: It’s still as sturdy as when I first put it up a year ago! Read more

I bought four different baby gates from amazon and made a table comparing them--north states is my favorite but the most expensive (pls see attached picture)This gate is NOT my favorite because it feels arthritic to open. You have to push a button and then pull up--and that's not easy to do when you have a baby or anything else in one hand.SOME OVERALL BABY GATE POINTERS BELOW:Questions to figure out what baby gate to buy:***How wide do you need the gate to be? Most gates are built for a standard door frame--many come with extensions to fit larger spaces but some DON'T (ie you have to order them separately and pay more…).***Do you want the gate to be normal height or tall? Normal height is good to step over easily. Tall is good if you DON'T want any kids to climb over it or you have a large/tall dog.***Do you want it to open both ways? I like this feature a lot.SAFETY***All of these "tension mount" baby gates have four posts that screw outward until they reach the wall. They also have cups that you can install on the wall to make them more secure. You don't HAVE to install the cups to secure the gate against the wall, but you really must if the gate is in a high risk area--e.g. top and bottom of stairs or any rooms you would put them in where they are unsupervised (ie childproofed bedroom while you shower for example). A toddler can shimmy-shake a tension mounted gate away from the door frame. Or I imagine that a heavy/persistent toddler could lean enough times on a gate on top of the stairs to bring it down--basically, don't underestimate how strong or persistent your toddler is if it's your first kiddo and err on the side of safety by INSTALLING the MOUNTING CUPS. Have been through 3 of these types of gates. Two of those were Regalo Easy Step gates. The Regalo gates are trashy compared to this thing (specifically the frame and the hardware that presses the gate into place). The frame on the Dreambaby is HEAVY, and the hardware to attach the the wall is thicker than the Regalo by at least 25% in diameter. The Dreambaby comes with VHB taped mounting circles that you can tape to the wall to prevent kids/dogs pushing and slipping the gate out of place (excellent feature).The Regalo latch mechanism has a larger "grasp" contact area on the latch where as the Dreambaby lifts and swings out of the way with a thumb pull to allow you to actually pull the gate up to unlock. I like the Regalo lock, but this has stood up well to a 50 lb kid.It's just way better than the Regalo. Read more

The seller would not allow me to return this item even though I was very disappointed with the safety issues in its design when I tried to set it up. First, this gate has a relatively high bar at the bottom (i.e. floor level), which presents a significant tripping hazard. Second, the narrowness of the gate makes it necessary to turn a little to the side in order to get through -- and my wife and I are very slim people. This narrowness and the struggle to get through the gate presents a second hazard because is already difficult enough to maintain balance when walking up/down the stairs while carrying a baby at the same time. Third, the sharp corner at the top means that we need to be especially careful whenever we carry the baby through the gate, in order to prevent that corner from cutting him. I work in design/ergonomics/human factors, and seriously, I'm not impressed with the numerous safety hazards in the design of this so-called safety gate. Read more

This is a great baby gate! Love how tall it is, it opens and closes with ease after you get he hang of it. Closes on itself if you open and walk through you don’t have to turn and close it yourself which is a HUGE plus! My only concern is cutting myself constantly on the opening side of the door where the latch is. If the door is open and you walk by there’s a red piece from the locking gate that gets me almost every time!!! It really sucks but this gate is so nice to have and it is already up with the attachment stickers so I don’t want to return it, I’ll have to figure something out for this error in manufacturing the gate. Ideal for dogs but the latching mechanism is poor. I would not trust this at the top of the stairs with a toddler. The latch seems secure, but a simple lift and it's open. You need positive action to ensure its locked in place and can't be just lifted. When properly locked the unlocking button is poor too.If I'd bought this for kids I'd be sending out back. Read more

i really liked the height of this gate and is ideal for keeping my Rotties out of the lounge throughout the day, they can come in during the evening though. The gate automatically closes and is easy to open one handed. The gate is very secure and does not move out of position after fixing using the screws and caps supplied. If you're putting it in a door-frame, it'll almost certainly get in the way of your door handle meaning you can't close the door. Great idea, but falls flat when you find out you can't close a door because of it. Read more
