With your free hand, pull the targeted skin areas straight so that you can always work on a flat surface. With short pulls, you first take care of the smooth areas such as baking or neck. Always work with the stroke and make sure that you always move the knife towards the cutting edge - never along it. It becomes a little more complicated on the chin and jaw – here you can pull beautiful grimass and tighten your skin particularly tight, so that no skin wrinkles get in the way or you have to "drive" a narrow curve radius with the knife. You can wipe your razor on a soft cloth after a few strokes or hold it briefly under water to free it from hair and soap residues, but please do not touch the edge of your knife. A wet shave like the master barber Wet shaving with the razor is easier than you think. The preparation is important, because a dry beard hair is about the same thickness as a copper wire. First let the beard hair soak with a good soap, then spread the leather razor with the stroke in short strokes and an angle of 30° across the skin. If necessary, you can perform a second pass against the line. Soaking the beard When applying the shaving foam, it is best to start with moustache and chin – they are the critical regions when shaving and need a little extra exposure time. Then you continue working over your neck and baking until your whole face is covered with foam. Give the foam a quiet 5 minutes time to soften your beard hair thoroughly. Preparation: Before you start with your shave, start pulling your knife. To do this, you first stroke with your hand over the removal strap to remove dust and dirt. Now you gently place your knife with back and cutting edge on the tightly tensioned strap and pull the blade towards the back of the blade without much pressure. Don't forget to keep the strap on tension, otherwise you may damage the razor burr. When you arrive at the end of the strap with the blade back, turn the knife over your back and start the procedure on the other side of the blade. After 10-15 rounds, your knife is ready for a gentle shave.

Unfortunately the internet reviews on this razor were completely true, the blade was not in fact shave ready right out of the box. Furthermore, it was not professionally packaged, wrapped in paper to absorb excess oil nor anti-tampering labels placed on it, and plastic exterior wrapping not fully sealed, unlike ordering a razor of this kind straight from a very reputable manufacturer.Per the book "The Art of Shaving: Shaving Made Easy - What the man who shaves ought to know." Paperback – March 28, 2012 by 20th Century Correspondence School (Author), and available at Amazon.com, the blade on this razor in fact did ring true with the thumbnail test, however the imperfections of the blade to take note of, as per this book were sadly all there- micro gouges in blade, some scratching on blade etc.... and highly doubtful can be easily fixed by anyone whom has not manually sharpened a knife with a wet-stone in an exceedingly long time!I would by no means recommend ordering this razor to anyone and encourage them to read internet reviews as well as Amazon.com reviews of this razor prior to purchase. Sadly, this was this reviewers second attempt to obtain a high quality straight razor, as is recommend by most all, as well as strop, etc... from Amazon.com without success, thus the two stars awarded this review! In the end, sadly, one should do extensive homework prior to purchase of this type razor from any source, and would recommend going direct with manufacturer's of these precision tools themselves.PS: Please note the number 41 as part of makers mark on the blade in images of product provided by this Amazon.com seller! The 41 appears both vertical and horizontal in the seller images. On actual product ordered the 41 is vertical (i.e. turned on its side/vertical vs. straight like normal lettering read right to left on horizontal plane.) Is this correct????? Read more

Wow, what a razor! This thing looks beautiful and seems extremely well constructed. I can tell a lot of care went into this. There is no 'ebenholz' emblem on the handle but that's fine, I prefer it without. Everything else seems as pictured. I love the ebony wood handle, it's worth paying the extra 20 bucks or so over plastic. This razor comes sharp sharp sharp! It was shave ready right out of the case, though I still stropped it a few times for posterity. This thing passed the hanging hair test right out of the packaging with flying colors- Again, I can see a lot of care went into this product. This is my second straight razor, I started with a Gold Dollar to get the feel for using one and to make sure I liked it. I was sold on the Gold Dollar and this is even better (even at 7x the cost, it's worth it). The Dovo is lighter, the edge is finer, and there is a much more even grind along the length of the blade. If you have reserves on getting a Dovo because of the cost, trust me- get it, you'll just be upgrading eventually anyway. Let's face it, this is the last razor you'll ever have to buy, just think of it as an investment- you'll still save tons over disposables! I'm including a photo of the razor I received in case anyone is wondering how it compares to the advertised product. Thanks for making a superb product, Dovo! Read more

When I start something new, I tend to go all in. Foolish decision or not, it's what I do. I get what I want because it's generally cheaper in the long run that way and I usually don't have regrets doing that. My wallet might, but I don't. This is no exception. I have sensitive skin that tends to break out when I use a Gillette style razor. I heard that using a straight razor is much better for your skin. For the first week or two of using this razor, I looked like I had gotten into a fight with a cat. But after learning the subtleties of how to use the straight razor, I would NEVER willingly go back. (The only exception is that TSA gets cranky if you have a straight razor in your carry-on; so for short business trips I use a Gillette style.) .The quality of the steel combined with the beauty of the olivewood scales is superb. And if you're going to store the blade for a while, just put a light coat of olive oil on the scales and you're good to go! :D I am QUITE happy with this razor; and in spite of the cost of getting a straight razor setup, I would still HIGHLY recommend it / this razor to anyone and everyone. It is extremely rare in life to be excited about something before getting it and remain excited afterwards. It took me many months to finally decide that I was willing to pay more than $50 for a razor.I am so glad I did.Previously, I got five other blades from Amazon, all under $25. I don't regret those purchases as I got to learn honing ( I also got some stones etc).I also was mostly disappointed with the other blades as all had one or more serious flaws. The worst ones are blades that are not quite flat or worse. While a professional may not be slowed by such deformities, someone new can end up with one disappointment after another. Some might even give up.In any case, straight shaving is certainly not for someone who prefers speed over elegance. As for this blade, it is a piece of functional art. Everything about it feels perfect. It's size, weight, design and even the packaging.Although the blade does not quite come as perfectly shave ready, it is so darn close that it took the gentlest few passes over my Naniwa 12K and a few passes on green compound loaded strop. After that, some gentle stropping and it was good to go.I definitely expanded the least amount of energy shaving compared to all the other straight blades I have.Simultaneously, I had the most pleasure shaving ever.I read other negative reviews of this razor and was prepared for some disappointment but I am so happy mine came without any of the flaws the few had experienced.I almost don't want to shave with it any more to protect its perfection.Kudos to Dovo!!! Read more

Read more

Molto soddisfatto dell’acquisto. Read more

Read more
