I have Hashimoto's and although I don't feel drastically different now than before I started this supplement over a year ago (I have other issues going so it's difficult to tease them apart--disc degeneration, OA, FM/CFS/ME--my main issue is chronic pain/fatigue). I have learned it's important to supplement with selenium if you have hypothyroid issues, and not just any selenium that you can buy OTC--in most cases, you get what you pay for in quality supplements. I researched hours online before I settled on this form. Now some of my thyroid nodules have become smaller, according to the 'swallow/palpate' test performed by my endocrinologist. If you have adrenal or thyroid issues, you MUST check out Janie Bowthorpe's "Stop the Thyroid Madness" books and website. Btw, Hashimoto's wasn't the epidemic it has become since the introduction of iodized salt and the substitution of natural folate with synthetic folic acid in our food. I purchased this supplement at the suggestion of my acupuncturist. In fact, Douglas Laboratories was one of three brands she recommended. Why?? The FDA does not review or approve supplements before they hit the market. Manufacturers can use all kinds of fillers (some toxic), and make wild claims about being able to cure a variety of illnesses. Sure, you might see "GMP" or "NSF" on the bottles, however I prefer to purchase supplements from companies who have their products tested by independent 3rd party laboratories. Is this an absolute guarantee? No but it certainly adds another layer of reassurance.Selenomethionine is a potent antioxidant and immune system booster and it promotes both heart and liver health. Maximum dosage is 400 mcg per day and you can suffer some serious side effects if not followed. The capsule is small and easy to swallow. I have hypothyroidism. With medication, I was able to achieve normal levels of T4 but not T3. As it turns out, I had low selenium levels that were preventing me from converting t3 to t4. I tried a regular store brand selenium and there was a slight improvement. I started researching and found that this was the most useable form of selenium. Started to take this Selenium about two weeks ago. Douglas Labs is a trusted resource. I read that selenium is "the single best trace mineral that most people are lacking". It's valuable for energy and optimal health. I can't tell you that it's changed my life drastically (at least not YET). But, the lack of any mineral can etch away at our brain, blood & bones.
