This is extremely pricey for just 30 servings of magnesium, almost $2 per serving. My normal magnesium veg cap supplement - Magnox 520 - is a much higher dose (520mg, not 300mg) and a fraction of the price at only $15 for 60 servings. So the Magnox is about 25 cents per day (vs almost $2 per day). The drink mix does have a place though. I like to have something like this (CALM, this, or any number of other brands) to add to my smoothie, morning cereal, etc, as a little magnesium boost. This formula dissolves pretty well, has a mild flavor (sweet citrus with a little bit of cherry, not too tart), and is NOT carbonate like CALM drinks, so there is no fizziness to it. It's probably the smoothest magnesium drink I've ever tried. The description says that it's sweetened with monk fruit, but the ingredients say stevia sweetened. I'm not too concerned about the discrepancy because either of those sweeteners are fine by me. I like that they use natural ingredients, and that it's zero added sugar. Also this provides 3 different forms of magnesium, and I have come to believe that getting multiple forms of magnesium is best. However, the hydroxide from Magnox has been studied in medical literature and claims to be the best for absorption. And, Magnesium L-Threonate has been studied for neurological benefits, and I believe it's worth taking at least a small daily dose of that as well. Read more
Magnesium supplements are a reasonable choice for many people. There is a lot of debate about the values of the different salt formulations, with some claiming better absorbability or passage through the blood-brain-barrier. This is a combination of three different magnesium salts. I am only really familiar with the bisglycinate, which is a reasonable choice. Regardless of the choice of ingredients or quality of this supplement, I just think you would have to be utterly mad to spend $54/month on a magnesium supplement. I cant imagine any circumstance where it could be worth that amount. Even very high quality supplements can be found for a third or quarter of that price. I rarely do this, but docking two stars here purely for outrageous pricing. Read more
I wish this product didn't cost $56.10 because that's out of my price range. But, it seemed to keep my legs from cramping or getting restless last night after I played an intense 3 set tennis match with lots of deuces. I'm not exactly a spring chicken anymore being 63, but I play tennis like one and later I almost always suffer for it. I know that this product is mainly for mental cognition and I think it probably helps with that, but my main purpose in selecting it for review is to keep my muscles from flipping out all night and keeping me from sleeping. I took it about an hour before bedtime, just as directed on the side of the container. I didn't have one second of muscle cramping or restlessness and that's very rare for me, especially after such physical exertion. The flavor is a nice, lightly sweetened flavor and was easy to drink. It takes a while with some stirring to get it to dissolve and there was still some undissolved residue at the bottom of my glass but only a little bit. I think this is an excellent magnesium product. The Designs for Health brand is premium priced at $1.87per daily scoop. As an alternative to pills, it’s worthy considering. We have two family members who take Magnesium daily, typically in easy to swallow pill form. As you know from reading the product description, this version is in powder from, working out to 71% of the daily value. Thus, for one person, a bottle represents a one-month supply. As you know, it’s best to ask your doctor how much she recommends for you and then shop for a suitable price by price per dose. Unless you prefer to mix in water, you can also get the calming effects of magnesium in other easier-to-take forms. One odd thing I noticed is that the company website seems to be geared toward professional marketing and a constructive suggestion is to make it consumer oriented, too. Guys like me will always want to check out a company before ordering. Being locked out of information such as ordering without a login is unusual. At the time of this review, Amazon offers its 30 day free return guarantee on several Designs or Health products yet not this one. Read more
This is an expensive but fabulous way to get your magnesium. It includes three highly absorbable types of magnesium, Magnesium orotate, Magnesium Glycerophosphate, and TRAACS Magnesium bisglycinate chelate. It is sweetened with monk fruit - in fact, my only issue with this product is the sweetener. I understand monkfruit doesn't raise one’s blood sugar, but as I put this in my smoothie along with a bunch of other products that are also pre-sweetened, the combined products tend to make my drink taste too sweet. I wish manufacturers would offer an unsweetened version of their products for those of us who would prefer a less sweet tasting drink. Other than that, This product hits it out of the park. I will be definitely buying this again. Read more
Sometimes I can't remember which magnesium is good for what, this seems to cover all of them. I use magnesium to help me sleep and for muscle cramps. This powder mixes well with cold water, with just a little tart but yet sweet taste. I've also added it to a smoothie and can't taste it at all.. Read more
I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor of the powder because the only other ingredients (besides the magnesium) are citric acid and luo han go extract (a fruit). It has a slightly sweet flavor. The best way I've found to take it is to mix it in room temperature water and let it dissolve a bit and then add ice a few minutes later. After drinking there's usually some left over sediment at the bottom of the glass, but I just add a little more water at the end to drink the rest of the sediment. I like that it has the three forms of magnesium and I've found that it helps me relax at night/sleep better. Read more
