So I ordered these a few years ago, never really used them that much, but during this quarantine started getting back into swabs, and cultures. Decided with the CDC sending out contaminated swabs that I would do a control study every time I swabbed someone. I would grow a dish with an actual sample then swab the plate with the sterile applicator, almost every control sample grew massive amounts of colonies. Im so disappointed and my trust has been shattered. How many patients are actually getting inoculated with bacteria every time they go in for a swab? Really guys? If it says sterile, that means I shouldn't be able to grow bacteria off the tip, and we aren't talking a few colonies, we're talking >100,000. Read more

Pros; Packaging was spot on. Loved the way 2 swabs were packed in their own individual, sterile container, making these a good value as well. The cotton buds were more than ample and did not fall apart or unwind upon use.Cons; the wooden sticks are EXTREMELY thin, brittle and flimsy - almost as if made of very light Balsa wood(?). I bought these for putting medication inside my dog's ears. Upon putting the meds in the second ear, she moved her head and the stick broke off so low I couldn't even see it to pull it out with either my fingers or hemostats! Yes, she's a big dog. Thankfully she was able to shake it out but I'm worried that the jagged edge of the broken stick has scratched her ear canal when she shook it out. So please, unless you have a very small dog (or cat) and are not intending to place medication deep inside the ear or deeply clean the dog's (or cat's) ear canals do NOT use this brand! *PLEASE use caution when inserting anything into a pet's ear. I expected these to be like long Q-tips but they’re a little different than that. The tips are cotton, but it is not soft and fluffy. It is compressed and almost smooth to the touch. This is probably better than a q-tip for applying ointments. The sticks are thin and wood. They have a little more give to them than I would like for some purposes. I do like the sterile packaging: 2 swabs in each packet. The packets are easy to open and you don’t need a scissors. Read more

The wood gives me splinters when I'm using them without gloves on. Also, the wood is thin and brittle as you might expect so sometimes the stick breaks in my hand. I've used them to clean around my daughter's g-tube site and to clean the nooks and crannies of her electric snot sucker. I've not tried other brands to see if they all splinter so badly, so I don't have anything to compare these to. I just make sure I always have gloves on when I use them now. Read more

I use them to swab out my tracheostomy. I have to be careful, because they can break easily, and I don't think inhaling part of one would be good for my continued health. Read more

I am a body piercer working in a studio and I use lots of Dynarex products in my set-up. These sterile cotton swabs are great for cleaning up the site after a piercing, dabbing away any last drops of blood, compressing the area, etc. I always have them on hand. The sticks break quite easily, so I wish they were a little sturdier, but for the price they are a good value. Read more

I loved that these sterile cotton tip applicators. I had surgery on my toes and needed something sterile to clean them with and then something else to apply the medicine with. I bought these for my surgical purposes and proud to say I did not get an infection at all. Once I didn’t need them, I took the left overs to my place of work (an optometry office) and they used them for all sorts of things. They like these better than the brand they used to use.
