I bought this based of the wirecutter review. My face breaks out with acne easily so I've always bought the more expensive “break out free” stuff, but based of what I read I probably didn't need to. I've been using this everyday on my face and body for almost a week and haven't had any problems. I'm black and have trouble finding a good sunscreen. Most chemical sunscreen, and I don't care from what manufacturer, causes break outs and acne. So, I've resigned myself to using physical sunscreen only. I'm sure people of a darker shade know physical sunscreen has its own frustrations as well. Mainly, physical sunscreen leaves an undeniable whitecast on my face. However, I'm stuck between suffering sunscreen-induced acne flare-ups or looking like a weirdo with a ghost face.The reason I wear sunscreen is to avoid hyperpigmentation, especially on my rashes. It's difficult being judged so harshly with obvious physical sunscreen on my face. Strangers often think I'm trying some "skin whitening" lotion. It's ridiculous how much negative stigma and ignorance there is about the use of sunscreen in the black community. My dermatologist told me EVERYONE should where sunscreen---no matter their shade. If you have any kind of inflammation on your face, it's even more important.Anyways, I was desperate to find a more discreet sunscreen that I could wear that would not cause breakouts or look too oily. I heard about this Coppertone from Consumer Reports. With my past experience with chemical sunscreens, I had my doubts, but I figured if it doesn't work I'll just keep using my Cerave Sunscreen Stick SPF 50. An awesome physical sunscreen that unfortunately has a whitecast.Once I put the Coppertone on my face, I was surprised how matte it dried! It definitely goes on "wet" but dries with a nice flat (not oily) finish. Best of all, there wasn't any ghostly white shade covering my face making it patently obvious that I was wearing sunscreen. Now, I could confidently walk outside with sunscreen knowing my face is protected and my rashes can heal without darkening due to sun exposure.Definitely recommend this stuff! I am a dermatologist. I am satisfied with this sunscreen. My family uses it.By the way, use of this product will not harm coral. Oxybenzone has been shown to affect coral only at concentrations 1,000x greater than could be produced by humans using this product when swimming in the ocean. At concentration is of oxybenzone such as are produced when humans wearing this product swim in the ocean there is harm done to corals. This has been conclusively shown through lab experiments. There have been several reviews from those who order Coppertone Ultraguard 70 sunscreen saying they ordered it due to high ranking by Consumers Reports, but because the bottle looked different from what they ordered and was pictured in Consumers reports, they thought they were getting a knock-off product. I just called Coppertone and talked to a representative. The old packaging for Ultraguard 70 was retired, and there is new packaging for 2020,. The new package has a geometric design, yellow top, and says “Limited Edition” Coppertone 70. They are no longer using the “Ultra Guard” wording. She said she does not know why Consumers Reports had the old edition, but they have received several calls like mine. This is the fourth highest rated sunblock lotion by Consumer Reports. I prefer it over all others because it has no smell, is not particularly greasy feeling, and washes off fairly well. It also leaves sun exposed skin feeling moisturized. This is the best sunblock I have ever used, and it's fairly inexpensive. Read more

I've never used a sunscreen that went on this smoothly or completely. We were on a week-long beach vacation and we went through a few bottles of this stuff. Ended up using this from head to toe, including on our faces. Went on as easily as lotion, and it rubs in completely. Didn't feel sticky, and the smell wasn't too strong. All day, every day, in the sun - no burns!Be sure to re-apply as needed - we put it on twice a day, but instructions indicate more frequent application. The product delivered is NOT Ultra Guard, as advertised. Coppertone does not currently sell this product without the "Ultra Guard' name, so this is old product.
