I've bought this dryer 3 times. I think that says it all right there; it works better on my very thick, coarse long hair than any other dryer I can find. HOWEVER, it will fail. And fail horribly, with smoke and fire hazard. So my real rating is not 4-stars "I like it", but more like 5-stars for performance, 1-star for longevity and construction, and 0 stars for the company that makes it.My first one lasted about 2 years. But toward the halfway point to end-of-life it started getting smoky. Like, I have to dry in the bathroom with the door closed or it sets off the smoke detectors in my house. And the bathroom would fill up with a smoke haze. So, yeah, not ideal, and it can't be great for your hair. When it got seriously smoky, I chucked it to the e-waste pile and went in search for something else. As I know from other Conair products (Cuisinart) the company is the crappy kind that manufactures products with planned obsolescence, which I can't really support, in theory. So I went in search of a different dryer that is perhaps made better.Well, I tried at least 5 different dryers. Reading various reviews, etc. I tried different brands, different price ranges, anywhere from $40 to $125, from drugstore to "professional" grade. Not one of them made my hair look as good as this one. It seems this one does the best job of flattening and smoothing my very thick, textured hair and gets it to a flowing, silky straightness, and does it faster than any other I've tried. In addition, this one is significantly lighter than any other I've tried, which is easier to hold up and great for traveling (much lighter in the suitcase than even "travel" dryers). My hair is very naturally buoyant with lots of body, and other dryers that did a decent job of smoothing or straightening still gave me "big" hair. So after trying half a dozen, I ended up purchasing this one again, against my better judgement.Well, recently (after about 1.5 years this time) my 2nd one surpassed its really smoky stage where it was setting off the smoke alarm to an actual tendril of smoke coming out of the drying end! Yikes. It really looked like it would burst into flames any second. Chucked it once again to the e-waste pile, and began the search again. This time, I was determined not to buy the same junk. So I tried another 5-6 dryers. all with the newest features and good reviews. Again, I tried "professional" and up to $125 (which I consider ridiculous to spend for a dryer, but I wanted to see if any of them were better). The RUSK Engineering W8less Professional 2000 Watt Dryer ($79.95) came pretty close, doing a fairly good job of straightening, but it left my hair looking very dull. I ended up sending it back and got the KIPOZI 1875W Hair Dryer,Nano Ionic Blow Dryer Professional ($37), which came the closest to what I wanted. However, it takes WAY longer, is heavier, and still my hair is too pouffy for me.I think the key is that this one gets really, really hot, which is why it works so great, and also why it inevitably get smoky and burns out.So, yes, I have now purchased a 3rd piece of Conair junk and now my hair is finally looking how I like it in a minimum of drying time, much as I absolutely hate to be supporting a lame company and voting for disposable society with my dollars. So, if you buy this dryer, accept the fact that it will probably only last a year at best, but for $20 you can and probably will buy another. Read more

This pretty purple blow dryer was a deal on Amazon! Half the price that it was in the pharmacy store on the corner. My blow dryer blew up unexpectedly so I bought this with a little research done. When I first fired it up I thought it was going to be a disappointment because it is not loud. The long story short is it just has a quiet motor that blows at a lower sound level which is actually pleasant. I'm one of those people who absolutely hates leaf blowers and 2-cycle engines. My last blow dryer was whiny and annoying and almost hurt the ears when it was running. This one run circles around any blow-dryer I've ever had, in the noise department. Highly recommended!I have very long hair with enough grade to make it not want to be straight and I'm able to also run a brush and a blow dryer through it to get most of the Waves out, easily. The blow-dryer has both multiple speeds and a cool warm and hot setting so it should easily be a comfortable blow dryer for anybody whether they are blow drying hard to dry hair or that of a small child with tender skin. I had this same exact hair dryer that lasted me 11 YEARS before it died. #RIP Because I bought the original one so long ago, I thought that it was impossible that Conair still made the same one. Low and behold I search for one on Amazon and the exact same one showed up, so I ordered it. I have been using it for about a week or so to make sure it was still the same and it is! It is wonderful, affordable hair dryer. I hope this one will last me the same amount of years! I normally do not write reviews but this hair dryer is amazing! So happy with this purchase! Read more

When my dryer broke I went shopping for a new one, hopefully a nice color. I wanted at least 2 blower speeds and 2 heat levels. This was the 2nd one I tried and it is a winner. The price is super low. I have fine thin hair so drying does not take much. Those with too much power just blow my hair aside. I use the high setting to start then drop down to the low blower setting to finish. The unit is quiet enough for me. It has a cool button. I have been buying cheap dryers and it seems none last long. I will update this when/if it breaks. I think it is a good value. Read more

I think the dryer may be fine considering the amount of damage done to the box it came in. Amazon packs a row of flat batteries in a huge box with tons of air pillows (not kidding) and then ships an pricey item in a plastic envelope. This is a head scratcher. The dryer runs...for how long is anybody's guess after seeing the box.Giving different star grades for drying power since I don't know yet, for traveling since I don't travel and 5 stars for being lightweight because it feels like a cheap piece of junk in that department.Added item and packaging with it to make my point about how the dryer arrived as, say, compared to a cable that would never break. I’ve tried many different hair dryers over the years that cost much more, but this is my absolute favorite ever! My hair is shoulder length and fine, and I live in Florida which has high humidity almost year round. Drying my hair used to take a fair amount of time with my other blow dryers. This dryer dries my hair quickly but doesn’t blow my hair all around. I use high speed for preliminary drying then low for styling. I love that when using low speed, the cool button stays on low volume so my styling isn’t blown away (it can also be set to high volume cool too). It’s also incredibly lightweight which means no tired arms and it’s also very nice for travel. Read more
