I'm diabetic, and 1/2 pkg of these is a 50 calories, and 12 grams carbs- so a little under the usual 15grams for treating low blood sugar- but I spike after an initial sluggish absorption. I like that these are gummy, and not chalky tablets or horribly sweet liquid. I can carry these anywhere, and the other half of the package stays fine if I fold the package over to loosely seal it. ....& lasts several hours.I work in an, Amazon FC, moving around, lifting, driving PIT, needing to be functional, for 10 hours per day, 4-6 days a week........soooooooo, these have nearly 100%, stopped me from eating candy. Candy was making me feel icky, afterwards, like the next day or whatever, candy at work is expensive, & I just don't wanna, anymore. If I'm feeling hungry, during the night, I eat 1-2 blocks, & w/in 5 minutes, feel much better, not hungry, no cravings, for at max, 2-3 hours.I bet these would be amazing, during actual hard workouts. They definitely get me going in the, "morning (lol, 430pm),"when I leave for work, as I don't eat, before heading out.The price is a shock at first, but for 18 bars vs the price of food/candy, vs servings, it's actually a great deal! I can't find these in stores, so I'll definitely buy again! Read more
I buy the caffeine-free mountain Berry and salted watermelon with +2x sodium for my son's high school NICA MTN bike race team. We Iive in Southern Utah where the heat can reach triple digit temperatures. The kids have to race anywhere from 4.5-6 mile laps, some of the riders having to do 2-4 laps each. The kids will eat a couple of blocks a half hour prior to riding, a couple more blocks 10 minutes before they race, some even keep an extra package on them to maintain their energy and electrolytes. The package can be hard to open while riding, the kids "lick and stickem" to their bike frames for easy access while riding without having to stop. Quick background: I'm an avid mountain biker, which is my primary use for these energy chews. I prefer them over many other options due to the fact that they check all the boxes that I need as a person who carries their materials in a pack over rough terrain. Here's the main reasons I use these over other forms of energy snacks:+They're clean and don't get messy+The pack and food item itself is durable+Good, fast energy for longer rides (remember to consume a serving 15-30 minutes before and every 20-30 minutes of high intensity cardio)+Does not leave mouth with a dry feeling+Difficult to choke on+Excellent flavor+No caffeine+They keep for a long time (over a year for the "best by", but I've never had them that long). When I mention durability, I'm speaking that the food doesn't disintegrate in a pack. I've tried other snacks like Honey Stingers, which while delicious, are a crumbly mess and hard to consume while riding. As these are gels and sugar, usually salivation increases after eating these, which is desirable since having a dry mouth is never ideal. I also do have a water pack with me, but only want to use it when needed.I know some of those sound like a joke, but when you're biking or participating in high intensity exercise, you aren't always fully focused on eating. Generally I continue biking while eating and drinking, so having something that's easy to swallow and not choke on is a great feature.Anyway, these are highly recommended and I enjoy that they are still caffeine free. I'm plenty awake and aware when my heart rate is through the roof from climbing category four trails as it is. Read more
This is one of two brands I go to when doing ultra long endurance rides. It is easy to open while riding, although opening it up before starting a ride is definitely easier. I like these because they are easy on the stomach, and provide a good boost to the energy drink I use. Three blocks every 45 minutes works well for me. The taste of the mountain berry is good and probably my favorite. Will be ordering more. Read more
These are my favorite. My blood sugar often drops when I run so I have a routine of eating one block every mile or two. It helps significantly. While they really have no great nutritional value to them, they came in handy when my son and I had a stomach bug and needed to get some replenishment back in our bodies after being dehydrated and in need of electrolytes. I wasn't sure if they would be useful for that but our headaches were gone for both of us within 30 minutes of eating a pack of these.Bonus, the strawberry flavor is amazing! They are like the best fruit snack you have ever had. Read more
These are fantastic to eat on long aerobic activities, and they give a noticeable boost in energy that's easily digestible. Flavors are all easily palatable, and the electrolytes in them help stave off cramps just a little bit longer than pure carbs would on their own.My only complaint is that they're a little pricey for what are essentially fruit snacks with electrolytes. That being said, I prefer them much more than eating fruit snacks during workouts. Read more
I started eating these when I would ride my dirt bike on tough terrain and be completely exhausted. I order these on amazon every 2 months (subscribe and save) and find they work excellent for me to pop cubes every so often. These from Clif are more ounces for the money than other brands I have tried. I dislike paying the same amount but only getting a few smaller pieces. These taste great, the texture is spot on. My 6 year old daughter asks for them at home and since they are not intended to just be candy and cost more than candy, I let her have them once in a while as a treat. Read more
I have found these very useful on my longer training runs. Very easy to open and eat on the move and easy to digest with no tummy upsets. Over 3 hours I do have to alternate with something savoury though otherwise I feel a bit sickly but a good alternative to gels. Read more
My second box of these - taste great and full of fuel for longer bike rides Read more
For me these are much better than gels, I don't get the "gelly belly" feeling you do when you consume too many gels as you fatigue. Would get 5 stars but they are so expensive for what they are! Read more
Highly recommended for anyone that suffers Type 1 Diabetes (or similar disabilities). I find them absolutely superb for an instant boost during a hypoglycermic attack, before I can get some long lasting carbs. Go down easy and actually taste nice. Worth getting in bulk as they are expensive, but I find I only need 1-2 blocks at any given time. Read more
