Freedom to roam, after my son was diagnosed with hypotonia and cp ( we call it floppy baby syndrome) it became apparent that he wasn't walking anytime soon. He is two years old & I hadn't been able to go anywhere without a stroller. I'm wishing I would have thought to get one of these sooner. I always thought they were so expensive, I would just use a stroller. After many comparisons and google searches I settled on this one which reminds me if you are looking for the backpack go to crosslinksmart.com. The price is way cheaper than anything else out there but the quality is just as good. We just went out on a five mile hike, he loved it! I thought for sure I would be sore especially around the shoulders however it never happened. I was all alone & able to get him loaded up by myself , the pack has a great kickstand, he felt safe and secure in the pack. Thick padding is all around as well as nice sturdy straps. The sun shade is easy to slide on or off, I like that it has protection from the elements. Also there is a nice big storage compartment attached to the back underneath the child. I was able to carry enough diapers, wipes and snacks. I do wish there was an easier way to get to the water bottles while hiking when I'm by myself. Since it holds up to forty pounds my child will be in it for awhile. The pack was comfortable for him, he fell asleep while I was hiking. I would recommend this backpack to anyone. This is one of my first reviews I hope it is helpful. Read more

What you get is a Baby Carrier comfortable enough for hiking, that's very adjustable and has all of the features of carriers twice its cost. While it has all the options of the top brands it lacks the quality in stitching, has cheap fragile zippers, and basic quality control. I have had this item for four weeks, using it twice daily and we never leave the sidewalk. I have seen multiple magazines rate the carrier one of the best, with the restriction that it not be used for trips for longer than 3 miles and for infrequent hikers only. If you are going on a camping trip next week and never plan on using the carrier again, this is the best carrier on the market. However if you go on long hikes frequently or like me, take the baby out twice daily to walk the dog, this carrier will break. My child is 25lbs and we walk ~a mile a day. In 24 miles the rain protector has had the velcro tear off, and more recently the entire frame collapsed. I am not that handy of a dad but in both cases, I was close to home and could repair the carrier in under 10 minutes. The cause of both failures was poor quality control and cheap materials. When it works its a 4 star carrier, but I would never take this item on a camping trip or a long hike without first giving it a long look over to ensure none of the hardware is loose and none of the stitching coming apart. The Velcro was single stitched and the thread was loose when it arrived. After attaching and removing the rain hood a couple times the tab came off. Again this took minutes to fix with a thread and needle. The cause of the frame collapsing was that the acorn-nut-bolts assembly at the bottom of the frame were hand tightened by the manufacturer. The motion of walking was enough to work them lose. With out the retaining bolt the entire frame collapsed. The size of the nut is M5 .8 metric in case anyone has this happen to them. Read more

We took this on our 10 day trip across the American Southwest. We stopped at 10 national parks and did at least a mile hike at each.Pros: Straps are easy to adjust so switching from person to person wasn't too big of a hassle Kick stand allows you to set it on the ground to get baby/toddler strapped in Lots of pocket space for diaper/wipes, water bottles, etc Straps are wide and padded so they are comfortable Lots of room for baby Folds almost flat so it did not take up lots of valuable trunk space Must be comfortable for baby because 18 month old never complained about getting in or being in it Sun shade is easily detachable and was a lifesaver for baby in the desert sunCons: Like most things this was clearly designed for men. I tightened the hip strap as far as I could and it was still a little loose on me (I'm 5"7 160 (ish) lbs). Once you get baby strapped in, it's a little hard to get the carrier on by yourself. I was able to manage it but putting it up on a picnic table and then getting my arms in straps.Honestly this was a great investment. Both my husband and I hiked with our daughter on our back. It was never uncomfortable (other than the fact you are hiking with an extra 20 lbs strapped to your back). Read more

this thing survived a road trip across Canada, and many hiking trips in Alberta and British Columbia. We did have to upgrade the bolts that came with it for the rods, but thats okay. we got lots of questions and couldn't recommend this enough! it doesn't make the child weightless but it definitely does a lot better of a job then the average baby carriers that are not meant for hiking. would purchase/gift again!
