This Chicco base has only a 6 year lifetimeThere is a sticker on the bottom of the base which shows:DO NOT USE AFTER: (date MONTH/YEAR) Which is the date of manufacture plus 6 years.Six years is more than enough time for one child. But if you plan to use this base for multiple children separated by a few years, or plan to sell the base after your children have out grown it, you may be out of luck. Six years after the date of manufacture the base is worthless.These expiration dates seem arbitrary, and six years is not a long time. Very safe and very convenient - ONCE the base is properly installed. Very challenging to get it tight enough. The local fire department will check as to adequare instillation, and I can see why that is a very good idea; because it is exceptionally challenging to get it tight enough against the back seat. Fortunately, my son in law ( having had experience installing in his own car and getting fire department review) was able to get proper instillation. Pretty much creates a necessity of having a base for each vehicle to be used as moving it from one vehicle to another would be time consuming and not at all possible for grandmother or anyone with less mobility and or hand strength. I've used worse car seat bases, but I haven't found a better one. Chicco has got it in the bag, baby.The levels are great for putting it in different cars. This was so easy to install! It literally took seconds! Click, click, pull cord, squeeze leveler, done. I love that it has a level bubble on it, and just squeezing the orange button makes it level every time. If you need to remove it, just push the orange button on the cord, and click the red buttons on the buckles to release.All of the buttons are red or orange, so its super simple to know what to do. I bought this as a second base to my initial combo set for my 2nd vehicle. It was full of a sticky substance and tobacco, which I am allergic to. Never ended up using because of that. My regular base that came with the car seat was easy to install (had the firehouse certified ppl check it out). I remember watching my parents struggle, sweat and swear over installing carseats on their vehicles, and with the Keyfit base, you'll never have to do that!
