I've had a variety of traditional sealed-type ice packs (full of blue goo) in the past, but they've been pricey, don't always stay cold as long as you'd think they would, and they eventually leak. After a recent adventure involving a hospital visit (the best ones usually do!), one of these Cardinal Health Ice Bags came my way.I'm impressed by the construction and the simplicity of the clip that opens and seals the pouch. Because these hold normal ice, when they end up finally leaking after a lot of use, at least you know it's only water inside. For being a thin membrane behind the soft outside, they control the transmission of the coldness well. The contents stay cold for a long time even as the ice is melting, and changing out the water for new ice is easy.I bought a multi-pack of these so that we could switch out to a new unit every few weeks, and so that we'd have spares to keep on hand in our First Aid kits. The individual bags roll up easily around the plastic clip and take up very little space. This is one of the cases, where for the way we use them, this style of ice bag is far more efficient and reliable than a freezable gel pack. This particular version from Cardinal Health is durable and reliable, and if one of the largest and most respected hospitals in the Northeast relies on them (that's where we got the first one), then that tells me everything I need to know in terms of trusting the product. Highly recommend for people on the go, first aid at sporting events, first aid kits for vacations, etc... Read more
While in the hospital I asked for and was given an ice bag just like this. At the skilled nursing facility the ice bags were totally different and often leaked withing 2 to 3 days. I was sent back to the hospital and the nurses gave me one just like this and I snapped a photo of it and found the 25-pack here on Amazon to be the best value. Later at the skilled nursing facility I asked that the bag be filled about an inch under the dashed fill line. If the bag bulged too much, I would remove excess ice until I was satisfied and then use the bag which was usually behind my head sort of like a small pillow. It put cold where I needed it and one bag lasted more than 6 weeks until a nurse decided to fill and seal it her way which resulted in it being jammed so she threw it away. After that I just asked for ice and filled it myself. I am home now and have extras that should easily last several years. Read more
These are awesome. They are totally water-tight (although I had a couple start leaking after extensive use ... but if you limit yourself to 10 uses or so, you should be fine. Favorite things about this:* It doesn't get as cold as a plain plastic bag. Besides the increased comfort of the gentler cold feeling, the ice lasts longer since it's not absorbing heat from the surroundings as fast.* They're lined on the outside with a comfortable cloth-like material, which helps to prevent condensation (and also insulates a bit, which results in the less-intense cold and longer lasting ice)* The closure is easy to operate. Not once did I screw it up to the point that it leaked due to incorrect closure, and I was able to prep the ice bags for my wife with minimal light while half asleep :)* With a little bit of practice and care, I am able to fill these directly from our icemaker, giving us an endless supply of cold ice bags without the need to suck up space in the freezer for the gel-based ones.* I eventually figured out that I could pre-fill a few bags for use during the night and stick them in the freezer if I wanted, and when removed, the bag still was not overly cold due to the cloth-like lining. All around, I love these and they're a definite winner. I bought these for my wife's use following knee surgery to help control her pain and swelling... they work! Whatever the cover material is, it doesn't feel like it will freeze your skin when filled with crushed ice and water. Amazingly, it doesn't sweat ... much better than a towel over an ice bag - no mess. We found it easier to dispense the crushed ice into a cup then dumping the ice into the bag, then add some cold tap water and shake. The seal has never leaked and one bag has given her 6 weeks of service ... and still going! Read more
One of these was provided to my wife following a surgical procedure and we found it to work perfectly.Very sturdy. Easy to fill with cubes or crushed ice and the closure continues to work after multiple fill/empty cycles. Outer finish on the bag feels nice against skin and keeps the bag from feeling so cold as found with many plastic containers. Read more
These are nice bags not sure where warmth comes into play. They r great ice bags. Trick to a great ice pack is to use 5:1 ratio of water to 70% rubbing alcohol. It allows the ice pack to be viable and allows it to wrap around wrist, leg etc. It does take a bit longer to freeze, so having extra of these bags help. I have been able to use one bag for 7-10 days, so they last long good quality for disposable ones.. Read more
I got one of these after my knee surgery and really liked it. This ice bag makes it easy to get the ice cooling where you want it. After my knee felt better rinsed it out and dried the inside well and put it away. Recently my wife hurt her shoulder so we started using it again and she really like it too. Then I sprang my ankle and we needed more so we found these. They won't last forever but the value is great and we like the way they work. Read more
Great ice packs although you want to make sure you really get closure clasp tight (did have a drip on one once ice turned to water). I was doing long icing with broken leg (even while I slept to keep initial swelling down following initial break and initial surgery. These really last for repeated use so I personally did not need this large of package. Ice pack helps with really cold packs which were really needed in the beginning of this leg break experience.
