The gate is rated for indoor/outdoor use. The black powder coated gate itself seems to be holding up quite well. The metal hinge rod is already leaving an orange rust coating at the top where the pin meets the frame piece after only 1 week of installation. Unfortunately, it is quite noticeable and takes away from the look of the rest of my new deck. I'm quite disappointed, not sure if it is a faulty part unique to mine, but I doubt it. If this was not rusting, I'd give it a solid 4 stars overall but instead it is getting a 1 star. It is easy to assemble, moderately sturdy, and minus that one issue, an all around good outdoor gate. Its a decent gate for the price and its nice that all the hardware to attach gate to the deck os included. Instructions could be a bit more detailed. I figured out the six inches off the ground was for the screw to drill for the pivot side. Six inches will basically give you about 1.5 inches of ground clearance. (See pic) If you want more ground clearance, subtract desired height of ground clearance to 1.5 inches. Add that number to six inches. That is how much higher the screw will need to be drilled. I recommend not going any lower than six as it will cause the gate to drag. I also recommend prior to screwing down the bar for the latch side to put a level on gate to make sure it doesnt sag too much and that its level to the ground. The latch system is goofy as other reviewers posted. After you release the latch, the whole gate lifts up to clear the locking mechanism. To put it to the test, my seven year old was able to open the gate on her second try. So not too difficult. Just takes some getting used to. Once all the screws are in place and tightened, especially the screws to lock the width of the gate, it feels pretty solid. Installation time will probably take on average 15 minutes. Read more

Assuming this product hasn't changed in the last year, I am a big fan. I've had one installed outside in the Pacific Northwest for over a year. It gets rained on often and has only the slightest bit of oxidation on a spot on the underside of the gate where where water tends to sit the most. Otherwise it looks practically new.The latch mechanism is very simple in design and construction, but very effective. It even confuses my wife sometimes. You have to precisely push both small latches down completely or either one will catch on the gate and prevent it from lifting out. It's not easy to open if you are, say, trying to carry armfuls of stuff. However, a young child is extremely unlikely to figure it out, since you have to precisely unlatch and lift simultaneously before pushing it open. The fit was perfect for my deck entrance. It feels very solid. It's pretty enough. It's just a nice gate overall. My only complaint is that I wanted a second one recently and the price has gone up significantly from my first purchase. I still feel like the increased price is worth it, though. Read more

After looking at several deck gates and checking reviews, I chose this one and I am very happy with my choice. This gate, with its slightly curved bottom, allows clearance for molding trim around deck posts. It was quite easy to install as the instructions and You Tube video were excellent! Even the latch, which I was doubious about after reading some of the reviews, proved to be easy to manage, even for old fingers like mine. The quality is great in both the main gate and extension.....just be sure to order the "outdoor gate" if using outside, as it comes with weather resistant hardware. Unfortunately, they do not offer this option with the extension and you must buy additional hardware either from the company, hardware store, or Amazon. That is my only complaint. Read more

Good, sturdy safety gate.I took off one star because of a lack of clarity in the directions. If you plan to install it outdoors, you DO need the supplemental hardware kit for outdoors. It isn't well marked, though, and assumes you have the indoor hardware kit that comes with the gate. Also, if you have young children, it recommends that you install it 6 1/2 inches off the ground, which seems too high for crawlers. This is also not clear in the directions what 6 1/2 inches off the ground means. It apparently does not mean that the bottom of the gate will be 6 1/2 inches - it means the bracket will be 6 1/2 inches off the ground and that if you install it that way, the actual bottom of the gate will be several inches lower than that. We didn't understand that and so our gate ended up so low that it almost scrapes the bottom of the deck. Which is fine, but not what we had planned. Read more

I purchased this door based on the description. It arrived ok and then the nightmare starts. Very poorly written instructions but the biggest issue is that the door is advertised ad "adjustable". Well the product I received came with the adjustable brackets riveted in place. Set screws were provided but these was no place to use them to adjust the width. Since I did not realize this until it was 80% installed, I had to drill out the rivets then use set tapping screws to fix the width set the sliding half in place. That was a whole lot more work than I had planned. On a smaller note, they provide a door stop to fix the swing orientation: I dare you make it work. If you install the stop, you cant open the door easily since the stop block the upward motion. In summary I wish I had never purchased this badly executed product. Unless you are very handy: DO NOT BUY. Read more

I bought this gate a few months ago when we moved to a new house on a busy main road. I wanted something to contain my dogs to the deck in case they darted out the door to prevent them from running off into the road. It has been through rain, snow, hail, and heat (we get all four seasons in one month here in Kentucky) and it still looks brand new. It functions well, looks great, and stays latched. It's a little difficult to open if you have your hands full sometimes, but I much prefer the added security of it staying closed that having it open easier. Read more
