The media could not be loaded.  I have a toddler that has just learned to open locked doors so I needed something mounted a little higher, out of the way and easy to activate for my own sanity. Mounted one on the garage door and the front door, both of these doors open inwards. I still have to find a solution for an outwards opening door. The installation is incredibly simple, three screws that need to be mounted. Before you permanently screw the long screws in, heed their advice and open and close the doors and latch the lock a few times before committing the location. Make sure that it does not rub on the door as it closes because this will damage your door.Overall an excellent product, about 5 minutes to install. Read more

I installed the Cardinal Gates Door Guardian on my front door months ago. The clever design is a snap to open or latch one handed and the sleek design with baked-on enamel finish looks like it belongs there.Installation was relatively easy. My door fits tightly, so I used a sharp chisel to shave off about 1/8th inch of wood on the door jamb, but most doors have a bit more space and don't need trimming. I found an electric drill useful to cut a thin guide hole for the two extra-long screws. From a security standpoint, the Door Guardian would make breaking in the door a real chore. But I actually bought it because my wife has Alzheimer's and has taken to wandering. I suggest mounting it at the TOP of the door; if it is out of their immediate line of sight, Alzheimer's sufferers won't notice it and try to unlatch it. This is a solid five star product. Read more

I was looking for something that I could install higher on our front door that was easy for an adult to operate, but out of reach of our kids. My son scared us to death a week ago when he unlocked and opened the front door (we didn't think he could figure it out) and ran out of the house after me. Luckily we live on a dead end-ish quiet street. I was looking at the standard chain security locks or the ones you see on hotel room doors, but then I came across this. It sounded pretty genius, so I purchased and thankfully it worked out great. As you'll see in the pic, we used it a little differently than advertised. We have a double door at our front entrance, the left being inactive (flush bolts at top and bottom). There was just enough clearance between the doors that I was able to install on the left door without having to mortise. This cut my installation time down to about 3 minutes. I just drilled a pilot hole in the middle and tightens the middle screw enough to make sure the lock was in the right spot (the middle screw hole is wide so you can adjust how far the lock needs to protrude to clear any moulding or casing), then drilled the other two holes and put those screws in. Done. Works great and just what we needed. The white thing you see below the Guardian lock is a door chime/alarm we out on to warn us if the kids do get the door open. We're paranoid now. :) Read more

I ordered 2 Cardinal Gates Door Guardians after my husband was arrested for assaulting me. I wanted something that would make it difficult - or impossible - for someone to open the doors to my home and come in. Installation was a breeze and I had both installed within 15 minutes. I installed them high so my children can't reach them, but given that they are all 6 years-old or younger I don't think they would be able to operate them even if I had placed them lower on the door frame. These work - really well - and it helps me sleep at night knowing that I have this added security. I tried a few other products on Amazon for extra security, including door jammers, and none of them worked well for me. I plan on purchasing another one of the Door Guardian locks to add to my outside garage door, for extra measure.Overall, these seem to be well made, easy to install, and a great value for your money. They're definitely helping me rest better in my home. Read more

This product is designed to work best on doors where the casing is flush with the door surface, not too common. If you have a casing around the door you will not be able to get the door guardian installed with the strike touching your door unless you chisel out a large portion of your door casement. Cutting into you casement might not be a problem if you want this for intrusion protection and you own your home. This product is close to being perfect for renters because the only holes are a few screw holes in the door frame that are covered by the door. Remove it when you leave and the landlord will never know. Unless you have the casing problem.Thankfully I only need this to prevent my toddler from escaping the house. So I was able to install it flush with the casing which leaves a gap between the door and the strike. This will allow you to open the door 1/2" before it hits the strike but then you are stopped. Not great for preventing forced entry but more than enough to prevent child exit. The unit feels solid and well made, i expect it to last. Installation was a breeze minus the casement issue.Update: I've added a product image to show what this looks like on my door with a 3/4" casing. Read more

Concerned after hearing about an increase in local door kick-ins, I finally decided to purchase this item that had been sitting in my "saved for later" cart for over a year. This afternoon, I replaced all the hinge and strikeplate screws with 3 1/2" deck screws and then put on the Door Guardian. Installation was very simple and I appreciated the slot that allows you to determine exact placement and adjust depth before drilling the other holes. My pictures show what it looks like both open and closed. What I learned: if you really want to know how secure your doors are, it takes more than a few glances. After changing out all the screws, opening/closing a number of times and pulling off a piece of trim to see the frame, I realized this old door isn't just ugly, but a piece of poorly-installed junk that needs replacing sooner than I thought. However, in the meantime, the Door Guardian does hold the door closed more securely and feels better than just relying on the lockset alone. I will definitely reinstall this on the new door, too! I have two escapees for children and these do a very effective job of keeping them contained in the home. They can’t open them (heck- many adults need to be explicitly shown how to open them!) and keep the doors fully shut so no critters can come in if they try and aren’t successful. They’ve also kept bad guys out effectively. We recently had a break-in attempt, and they bumped our locks but the Door Guardian held! Read more

Door guardians work great, they add an extra level of security. Installation on wood doors you need to mark where you want it to go and then notch out about 1/16 of an inch of material with a good sharp wood chisel, then secure with the middle screw and check the locking mechanism with the door closed. once adjusted so that it locks and unlocks with ease then open door and drill pilot holes for the long screws that go through the door jamb and into the framing beside the door. It comes with decent instructions and screws for installation. Read more

These locks are the best on the market. Good quality, slim design, hardly noticeable but they make all the difference in having piece of mind that our son can’t open the front door now. Also gives us piece of mind that if our glass was broken in our front door, it would buy us time to react as it would be super difficult to figure out why the door wasn’t opening from the outside. And once found would be difficult to open from the outside as it’s quite a tight fit. Super happy with it and it came overnight. Read more

Easy to install, works well. Perfect from preventing our two year old from escaping. In our case the fit is a little tight, so it scratched some of the paint on the door; however this is likely because we have a 30 year old door and door jam. Read more

This is a nice, convenient lock that works fine. It sure beats the old style door latches. I liked it so much, I bought a few more. I gave it 4 stars because the supplied screws are useless. They're soft metal and strip easily. It's best to get some real screws. (Robertson head) Read more
