I am a gay woman with thick, short hair and have used a ton of hair products and pomade in the past. Seriously, I've tried pomade for men from L'Oreal, Old Spice, Axe, Dollar Shave Club, Baxter, and Byrd is by far the best pomade I've used. I love the matte finish (leaves your hair looking styled without being shiny and oily), it's water soluble so easy to wash out even though it has a really strong hold without making your hair stiff and crunchy. I normally wash my hair twice a week, and have found that Byrd pomade still maintains the hold even after getting my hair wet (but not rinsing out the pomade).You'll definitely need to reapply after a workout as it won't keep the hold, but I imagine there are few pomades that can retain that hold while making sure your hair isn't stiff. Maybe it's a bit early for me to be rating this product 5 stars, but with every other hair product I've used, I know whether I like or dislike something about it within a few days; at this point in time, I can definitely say this is the best pomade I've used to date. I have tried at least 5 other brands, all water-based, some of which were medium hold and some strong hold. This claims to be a medium hold product but held up better throughout the day than Imperial's strong hold pomade. I was exposed to heat, humidity, and cold all in one day. None of the other stuff I've used has ever come out looking the way Byrd did by the end of the day.Every brand has their own scent added to their product, and this one is, again, the best in that regard. It is very subtle and unique, and you won't smell it unless you're up close. A plus in my opinion, as every other product I've used, was perceptible from a distance, like cologne. The finish is definitely matte as the packaging suggests. The finish a hair product leaves in my hair is something I'm very picky about. Despite claiming to be low shine, Imperial's pomade left my hair looking clumpy and wet like a gel. Byrd's pomade looks very natural, almost like you aren't using any product at all. I've also used Suavecito's matte product. Byrd's pomade is much easier to work through your hair and seems to have a much stronger hold.This is a great product so far. I got this pomade for the hold,no complains about that.It is greasy/oily and you can not easily apply to the hair.Worst thing is try to get it out of your hair,I literally got it out in two days,the first night took a shower and wash my hair 3 or 4 times with shampoo and leave hair oily,heavy and no natural shine.Next day same process, wash my hair 3 to 4 times with shampoo and I finally I could feel my hair smooth and manageable.I have a normal hair tough, no greasy, no dandruff, etcI definitely won't buy this product again.I'm not bashing the Company, just leaving a review for this specific product, It might for someone with fine hair maybe?It is up to you guys of you wanna give it a try Read more

I really like this company and I've been impressed with some of their other projects but this one didnt work. It warms up and goes into the hair just fine and it's quick and easy to get it styled. The problem is it just doesn't hold. It lasts about 15 minutes and then it starts to unravel. I've tried applying it in various amounts and have tried with both dry and damp hair but I haven't had much luck either way. As another reviewer mentioned, it's also very difficult to wash out. If you want all day hold thus is the product for you. I wear my hair spiked and about a quarter-sized amount in your palm is all that I need. Don't follow the video, instead dry your hair about about 80% dry - you need some moisture in your hair to allow this product to spread then rub it I to both palms evenly before applying. Now you should have about 30 minutes to play with your hair and get it the way you're it before it fully sets up. Give it a try if you like a good strong hold/ no shine look. Read more

This stuff is great. It has a very strong hold which lasts all day but remains malleable allowing your hair to be restyles throughout the day. Out of the can it is very sticky which makes it a little hard to apply. What works best for me is to apply to towel dry hair and apply in layers. When first applied it may make your hair look matted down with the weight but as it drys and sets, it will gain some volume back. I have very thick coarse hair that other products just fail to control without using a ton of product. I can use a little bit to just get the mop under control or add a little extra to keep it styled and looking good all day. I will admit it can be a little hard to get out of your hair at the end of the day but so far this is the one product I’ve found that will last all day and works the same at 5:00 pm as it did at 5:00 am. Best I have found, and I have tried a lot of them over the years…Not the cheapest by any means, but I don’t need all that much and it goes a long way. Does not make what little hair left stiff, not weak either…it’s just right. Been using products like this since around 15, from Dippity-Do to “Dirt” (use to be a favorite), to Crew…you name it, I like this one enough to be worried and by extras. I've had so much trouble trying to find the right hair product for me. My hair is super fine, so any weight at all makes it want to fall flat. It's also blond, and any moisture at all makes it turn dark and look kind of greasy.So many hair products are so heavy that they weigh my hair down, leading me to use more, making my hair look dark and greasy. But this one manages to avoid that! It's super light and firm, and practically dry. I only need to use a super duper small amount too. First time i tried it was like a eureka moment for me.
