Just yet another once a quality product that is no longer available.I am 66 years old and have been using British Sterling since I was a teenager splashing on a ton of cologne for those hot teen dates. British Sterling was one of my favorites. I always had a bottle in the house. The girls always said it was clean and sexy smelling. But that was back in the 70's and 80's.Later on in the 90's and into the 2K's, people would buy me different colognes, so I stopped using British Sterling for a while until I went through all the other colognes. So here in 2020, I saw British Sterling on Amazon and the price was average so I decided to order a 5.7 oz bottle of the Cologne splash. I received it today (11-7-20) and was seriously disappointed. All the years I used British Sterling, it was a green in color. The bottle I just got has some light yellow fluid in it. The fragrance is not at all what I was so very used to back in my younger years. I refused to believe that my nose has changed THAT much. I splashed a good hand palm filled with British Sterling and splashed it on my face, neck, chest and arms. The fragrance was not very strong for the big amount I just used. About an hour later, I couldn't even tell I was wearing any cologne.I have other colognes such as English Leather, Stetson and a couple others. They still smell like back in the old days and last just as long, so the fault is not with my nose. It is a lesson learned, but I really wanted to return to the days of my favorite cologne. Very disappointed. I guess this is one cologne I will never get use again. There should be laws that regulate how products can advertise. If they change from an original formula, they should have to state it on the product that it is no longer the original product. But then they wouldn't get to take your money, would they. Read more

Back in the 60's and 70's, British Sterling was one of my favorite scents. When this one came in, the coloring and packaging was the same but the scent just wasn't there. I was all set to send it back but my wife told me she enjoyed it. At least it doesn't smell all "flowery" or "womanly". There was a British Sterling look alike that CVS pharmacy sold some years back and when I smelled it, it smelled like a woman's bubble bath. At least this one has a manly scent. Read more

There was a time when this ws my go to. Now it's like do I buy this or a bar of gold. I recently bought this on sale and while the scent is the same now days it does not last very long. They have done somethinbg to cheapen this up. I'll use the bottle I have but won't buy it again! Read more

Way back in the 1960's, I was using Old Spice & it was Okay, however it just didn't have the Oomph, of British Sterling, or English Leather, or Jovan's MUSK, "ANY" of those 3, would get "ANY" Woman's Attention and like a Honey Bee "Drawn" to Nectar, they'd be drawn to the Man wearing these Pheromones. So Guy's or Gal's, ANY OR ALL OF THESE Cologne's will Work on any Man, "As long as He has a Personality Better than a Dead Fish". I've been using ALL of these Colognes for OVER 60 YEARS & I know what I'm talking about, THIS STUFF REALLY WORKS & JUST LIKE "BRYLCREME", a Little Dab'll Do You, Use it Sparingly, This Stuff is to Women, Like What "Nitro Methane" Fuel Is To FUNNY CARS & RAILS!!! GO GET'em TIGER!!!!!!!!! Read more

If you buy any of the old school colognes or aftershaves and expect them to be the same as they were 50 years ago you're going to be disappointed...the old companies are gone..most are now made in India or first bottle of British Sterling which I got for Christmas in 1968 was made by the original company..Speidel...someone else came next and today it's Dana....and made in China.....having said all that ...the bottle looks like original....and fragrance is very good.....not the original......but close enough........this particular seller has the genuine product that is made today...but don't expect 1968.... Let me start off this review on an honest note and say if you don't look at the cologne name and never owned the original formula...not a bad scent at all.If I walked into a drugstore and tested this formulation of British Sterling by Dana I'd say it was a slick barbershop scent.Doesn't seem to hold out longer than 4 hours max, possibly lighter in output than I'd care for but not least it smells pleasant. Now here's the reality-this is nothing like the British Sterling cologne my uncle got me hooked on in the late 80's...this is a stranger to me.So what did British Sterling smell like?A very thick fragrance would be the right wording for it.Very mossy with maybe just a touch of lavender in the moss.Very creamy yet spicy from vanilla, nutmeg, and a pinch of clove.Wood is present but very light. This was a warm and faintly barbershop scent. If I recall correctly last time I bought a bottle of the original stuff in the early 90's...$24.99 I think. So yeah working class affordable but not as cheap as other drugstore found colognes. My only complaint was in the hot summer heat and working in the field that spice got a bit heavy to my nose. The British Sterling formula by Dana is different to say the least...'brighter' is a word that comes to mind.At splash I still get a generous amount of moss combined with a much higher amount of lavender over the original. This is now a very 'clean and green' scent so it's slick and more barbershop. The spice combination is still creamy but Dana tried to make it more smooth and subtle...light.On one hand it makes you jones for how rich and warm that spice was in cold weather. On the other you're grateful in ninety degree heat that it's light and not cloying.Like I said in my review title...double-edged sword.I don't think the reformulation is bad but be warned...pursue the vintage formula if you're 100% wild about the old formula and content with in in every way.Even if Dana just made this as a new fragrance name...I'd still say it smells like it was copied from British Sterling.I only give 4-stars because the crown label on the bottle looks cheap and don't like the typewriter font they put on the box and flask...looks really cheap versus the old bottle.
