Let me start off by saying that I am African American Woman that is NC 50 in mac. I have oily acne prone skin which has the audacity to be sensitive. I was looking for a physical sunscreen to wear before I begin to incorporate aha/bha into my new skin routine. I wanted sunscreen that had healthy ingredients, would not cause acne, and would not make me look like I put white powder on my face. I thought my journey was over when I finally landed on Blue lizard for sensitive skin. I chose this because the ingredients were great( check), they had a sensitive formula so the chances of irritation were low( check) plus I read reviews on here that stated that though there is a cast you won't look like casper( check check check!!!). I really thought I hit the jackpot on this until I put this on my face. The first day i used a pea size amount on my face because the consistency was thick and I was terrified it would make my face look ghostly. I didn't burn so it does a great job in protection. However, this sunscreen even with the pea size amount, made me look like casper. My face broke out into small pus filled pimples all across my jawline. I thought it was my new regimen that was causing this and so I didn't attribute it to this. The next day I used Blue lizard again and used the appropriate amount and this time I looked like I could be a member of the blue man group. After washing this off I saw large cystic acne all across my jawline, my chin and on the center of my cupids bow. I just had a gut feeling it had to be this breaking me out,so I stopped using it for 4 days and my skin went back to normal. To make sure this was breaking me out I go on cosdna.com and put the ingredients to all the products that are in my new regimen and every single one had either 1 or 0 for acne/irritant column. However, one of the ingredients (Ethylhexyl Palmitate) in blue lizard had 4 in the acne column meaning this ish was comedogenic. Overall, this may work for those with normal to dry skin, but if you are oily, sensitive, acne prone or have dark skin this will not work for you. Read more
Bought this sunscreen before going to Belize scuba diving for a week. After some research, I purchased this product and another brand based on ratings and reviews on Amazon. I also checked a number of snorkeling and scuba diving websites to ensure that it really is "reef-friendly" as advertised. I was very delighted with the performance of this sunscreen. It took a little more effort (only a couple more minutes) to get it rubbed completely into my skin than the chemical sunscreen I typically use, but I didn't get a sunburn, it didn't turn my skin pasty white, and no coral were killed. Definitely going to use Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen anytime I get in the ocean and have recommended it to all my friends. Read more
This stuff is amazing! I've been suffering from a photosensitivity allergy since last summer. If I went out in the sun for more than 15 minutes (with or without sunscreen on) I'd develop a severe allergic reaction that would last for days. Itchy rash, swelling, trouble breathing, the whole 9 yards. I read that for some people using a physical (mineral) sunscreen like this one vs a chemical sunscreen actually helped. I was skeptical but figured it couldn't hurt to give it a try.And it worked! I can't believe it. I can go outside now without worrying that I'll end up a red, swollen mess for 3 days. I've eaten lunch outside, in full sunlight, almost everyday for the past two weeks without even the slightest hint of itch or swelling. I can't say that it will work for everyone with this type of reaction, but it's certainly worth a try.Tip: Make sure you shake the bottle before use and only use a little. You really only need a tiny bit of product so the bottle should last you a while. It looks chalky when you rub it in but the whiteness fades within a minute. I actually like the brief moment of white since it helps me see where I've missed places. Read more
I will say I've never been happier than ever. For the past 15 years of my life (maybe even more) I have struggled to find a sunscreen that I'm not allergic to. I was recently told by my dermatologist to use this product because it does not contain any chemicals and that it's a PHYSICAL sunscreen. I have allergies to sunscreen and sunlight, so you can see how grateful I am now that I have finally found a solution after so many years. I can't be in the sun for more than a few seconds during the spring and especially during summer time. I have to protect myself wearing long sleeves, long pants, and a hat or an umbrella to cover my face up. I was scared to use this sunscreen because I have had bad experiences with different sunscreens in the past. I tested a bit of it on the top of my forehead and went out for the day. I will tell you that I did not get any rashes, bumps or redness on the spot that was covered. The sunscreen is a bit thick so you have to spread it out well. So for those who are trying to find a sunscreen that they're not allergic to and to those who have allergies to the sunlight I do recommend trying this sunscreen out despite the price for the bottle. It is a bit expensive but it is worth the try to protect yourself. Read more
Definitely my new favourite sunscreen for my face. I personally struggle finding a good sunscreen for my face as my eyes are very sensitive and I cannot tolerate any kind of scent. I have only found two sunscreens that are not scented and don't irritate my eyes - this one and the Paula's Choice Calm SPF, but this one worked out better value for money. (Although I have noticed the price jumps around - I got it for around £20)I love this sunscreen, it is quite thick and so you need to spend a little time rubbing it in, but once rubbed in it looks fine. It does make my face shiny, but all mineral SPFs do that - I just wait for it to sink in then put on my normal matte mineral powder foundation, and then all shine goes away.I didn't notice a white caste once rubbed in, but then I do have pale skin so I can't say what it would be like for darker skins.I love the way it felt on the skin. Normally I dislike how sunscreen feels - it usually feels tacky and greasy. But once rubbed in properly this just felt really soft and silky. And best of all - absolutely no smell or irritation! I am so sensitive to scents and often things advertised as not having a scent still do in my experience. But this is the real deal, it smells like nothing, nothing at all. Read more
This is the cream of the crop when it comes to sun creams. A little goes a VERY long way, as it’s such good quality. One of my kids used to take it to a day long sailing camp and all the camp cousilors would even want to buy it and borrow it as it was so effective where we used to live (very hot weather and no shade while sailing all day!). Everyone who tried it found it more effective than the factor 50s they had. Never met anyone who borrowed it and didn’t think it was the best. Good for sensitive skin too. Read more
Blue Lizard sunscreen is often top rated in reviews so I was expecting great things, but I found it disappointing compared to the three others that I alternate between. There are definitely better sunscreens out there. The consistency is gloopy and feels slimy on the skin, very uncomfortable. Worse than that, I felt my skin burning far sooner than I would have expected. I didn't enjoy using it, and I didn't think it was very effective. On the plus side, it changes colour from white to blue in the bottle when exposed to light, which is a gimmick but quite fun, especially for children I should think. It looks white on your skin when you first apply it, but that fades. Read more
Love this suncream. I recognise its quite expensive but worth every penny to me. I like everything about it.It doesn't irritate my sun sensitive skin, it doesn't stain my white clothing yellow and its cosmetically elegant to use - by that, I mean, it doesn't take an age to rub in and doesn't appear to leave a white cast. Another positive is that it doesn't leave my skin feeling tacky to the touch. It's also been amazing in not exacerbating prickly heat which I have suffered from this year. I cannot praise this product highly enough. Read more
I have been on the hunt for a water resistant physical/mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide and this seemed to fit the bill. I have a darker skin tone (Fitzpatrick IV) - this does leave a white cast initially and requires quite a bit of slow, rubbing it, but after about 20 mins the white cast dissipates. The problem is that it leave a very, very shiny finish, even more than Altruist lotion (but mind you, Altruist fluid is almost as shiny as this). If you are a make-up wearer I guess you can use powder, but as a male it was a bit problematic for me.Due to the shininess and a lot of effort needed to apply this on to achieve a minimal white cast, I am giving this 3 out of 5 stars.
