I looked at several blood sugar monitors before deciding on this one. It was a great price as it comes with lancets AND test strips. What made my decision final was the price to repurchase the price of the test strips, which can be very pricey depending on the brand, but are not expensive for this brand. The monitor works great! It was easy to set up. Takes the smallest sample of blood and doesn't bruise my fingers. The results come up very quickly. It's small and can fit in my bag when I need to take it on the go. Additionally, the company was very communicative. I received several emails before and after to make sure I received my monitor and as well as how I can contact them if I was having issues. Had a two hour oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) performed at a lab associated with a large university hospital in my area. I suspected insulin resistance (IR). I brought along my week old Care Touch Blood Glucose Meter to run comparison with lab data. Four blood draws are performed by the lab. The first one is performed before 75 mg of glucose is consumed. This is done to insure the patient's fasting glucose is below 140 mg/dL. Any thing greater being deemed to risky to administer 75 mg of glucose for the test. The first blood draw is sent to the lab and comes back within 30 minutes. If below 140mg/dL the patient ingests the 75mg of glucose. In front of the lab techs (they were terrific), I self administered a test on myself with the aforementioned Care Touch Blood Glucose Meter. The bad news was that the fasting glucose (FG) was 104 from the lab (slightly > than normal. The good news was that the reading from the Care Touch Blood Glucose Meter came in at 105. Needless to say I was delighted with the apparent accuracy of the meter. The techs were impressed. At each subsequent blood draw I self administered a test with the Care Touch Blood Glucose Meter, confident of the resulting accuracy. The last three of the four lab blood draws were not made known to until this morning. The resultant lab readings were wildly different. The draw thirty minutes after glucose ingestion showed a difference of eight , the third draw (1 hour) was actually 64 points of difference and the last 2 hour draw revealed a 55 point differential. It is my first time to test my blood. It is easy to use. There is a setting for puncture depth. At first I used the 2 and 3 setting. It only drew a tiny spot of blood that didn't even register on the machine. I had to start all over with a new needle and test strip. I set it higher. Same results as I gradually upped the setting. Then I figured, what the heck, I will go to the max. Finally, I was able to get a reading. I was being overly cautious because I am new to it. Read more
