UPDATE: This is my first gel manicure kit, and I LOVE IT!!!!I received the kit Friday and fueled my insomnia by opening it all up and painting color swatches for the two color sets I got. I wanted to practice and see how it all worked. I have been doing my own acrylic nails at home for the past 20 years, not officially trained or certified, just like mine a certain way (The Leslie Way).I went to a salon last week and got an overpriced, thick and sloppy gel manicure ($40). That's when I decided to try my own and found this kit. Price was right ($40 for whole setup, 6 colors, base & top coat, remover pads, alcohol pads, files, cuticle oil, toe separators, etc.) I also bought the Pale Pink set of colors as well.I painted my mom's nails on Saturday for her cruise and she sent me a pic stating they were holding up well. Then my crappy gel manicure started to peel on Sunday, and painted my own with the Orange Glitter (from an on-sale Halloween kit - yes I bought another set of colors after only using it once). I have beautiful, thin, solid gel nails and I'm in love with this product.I have not tried other brands (yet), so I'm not sure what is better or worse for this one. Colors are almost true to the pictures so you have a good idea of what you are getting. The reviews and pictures people posted were crucial to me starting with this brand. There are lots of videos and positive/critical feedback. I agree that the top coat is a little skunky, but the base and colors don't have much of a smell. The Light has two settings 24 or 48 watt, which is very nice for more sensitive nails. I had a little trouble finding basic instructions anywhere other than on the amazon description. There were some helpful youtube videos for application. My cure times are 90 sec base, 60 sec color coats, 120 sec top on 48 watt. I played with it a bit on my swatches to see what worked best. I recommend you purchase some blank swatches if you are like me and change polish a lot or occasionally do others nails. I marked all mine with the bottle #s. I like everything about this starter kit! I chose the one with red, black, white, pink, silver and gold. The colors seem to match any skin tone. I got 1 1/2 weeks from my first try and probably could have waited a few more days to remove. The picture reflects my nails after about a week of wear. Very simple to use...my hands are disabled and I was able to do it, so I imagine just about anyone could. The only con, and I’m not even sure if this can be considered a con, is that it takes about 30 - 45 minutes to remove, but that’s also a testament to how long this polish lasts! I’m considering ordering a couple of these for Christmas presents. This kit is the same price as going to the salon (and, you don’t have to tip:) I can see me getting 15 or more manicures out of this one set....there’s a color for each season!One piece of advice- the base coat will remain a little tacky even after curing, go ahead with the remaining steps and they cure very quickly and make your nails rock hard! This is my second time doing my nails. Covid has us all gaining new skills. I broke a couple nails so I cut them all off but I thank God I had this kit. I have to say for me i watched several YouTube videos as I never even used to polish my nails even as a teen. I typically get my nails done every two weeks. This kit is a Godsend... it was quite easy to use... I may just start doing my own nails all together even after Covid as it’s just a safer option. I haven’t in many many years but I’ve had friends that have caught funguses from the nail shop... it seems every time I look up and turn around a friend is dealing with a fungus. With this kit that is not a worry. The polish has lasted very well, it was completely fine when I removed it after two weeks. This is a great starter kit for someone like myself who loves to DIY at home and for my grandmother who is tired of messing up her nails the second she paints them. The colors are true to the pictures which I absolutely loved about it. All the added items that come with this is also amazing! I’m unsure if I’m not a pro at doing my own nails but I’m having some trouble keeping it on for more than a week. My daughter also has some trouble keeping it more than a week, my grandmother hasn’t had any issues. I also am very happy that it comes with the base and top coat, most of the sets I’m finding online doesn’t come with the color purchases. The size of the bottle of the actual colors are a good size, the top and base coat are bigger than the colors which makes so much sense and I’m grateful!
