If you are looking for a 1-rated Environmental Working Group (EWG) mineral sunscreen that doesn’t leave a white cast on darker skin. You won’t be disappointed. It’s important to note that you don’t rub this in like a moisturizer. It’s not moisturizing nor meant to be used as one. It’s meant to a literally a layer of mineral protection from the sun.Other lotions that are both a sunblock and moisturize use chemicals to block the sun rays. The downside are these chemicals are toxic to our bodies and can disrupt the hormonal harmony among other things to your body.I apply a moisturizer on my skin first until my skin feels hydrated. Then I apply the sunscreen to my palm and spread it around like paint on a pallet. I start under my eyes and work the sunscreen outwards until my whole face and neck are covered. When you put it on initially, there is a light white caste. With Badger’s clear zinc technology it will dry clear or streaky in 5-7 minutes. If it’s streaky I continue to work the product in evenly until it’s no longer streaky. You can apply makeup over this too and you can eliminate any caste to your skin.I’m really pleased with it. I think a mineral sunscreen is a lifestyle choice. It requires some effort, but it’s not difficult. I’d rather have a natural sunscreen and limit my exposure to chemicals that can negatively impact my health. It’s all about your goals for protecting your skin. Lastly, this works well for eco-parks, like Xelha, in Mexico. So you don’t have to use their sunscreen and really look like a ghost or break out. Lol. Good luck! Read more

I took a picture of my forearms one half (left) is no sun screen, other half (right) has sun screen.SpreadabilityIt's really thick, thicker than vaseline, and doesn't spread without a lot of effort. My advice put dots of it every few inches instead of squeezing a bunch in one part and rub that way to make it easier to cover everything. It really heats up fast to just simple body heat and immediately reddened my sensitive skin (though thankfully no rashes or breakouts or anything lasting)EffectivenessCompared to drugstore coppertone i've use in the past, it seemed to be equally effective at blocking sun, I went out from 4-6pm in overcast weather and parts that i didn't cover were a little bit more sensitive to touch than parts covered in sun screen. I generously lotion-ed after a shower and my skin was warm to the touch like typical day-at-the-beach warm but not angrily red or flaky or painful like a sun burnt skin would be.Smellpleasant, like a Dreamsicle bar (orange popsicle with a vanilla ice cream inside for those that don't know what a Dreamsicle is). Though it has that classic suntan lotion smell after applied.Water-resistanceIt seems to stick well to the skin, it took more than a little effort to remove during my shower than other sunscreens.CastIt definitely made me paler but not like ridiculously pale. That being said, friends with higher concentrations of Melanin please be advised you probably would look ash-y.OverallI think this is a good product for people like me looking for a mineral-based sun screen that is free from silicones (-cones, -oxanes), parabens, and other ingredients that scientists are on the fence about safety wise in cosmetics. If I see any problems long-term I'll update this review, but for someone with sensitive skin like me, this didn't seem to cause any major issues beyond that skin reddining on immediate contact. I am of olive skin tone complexion and this did not leave a white cast. Not sure why people stated it does. Maybe this is a new formula? I do know previously all their products left a white cast (except their SPF 30 Tinted Mineral Sunscreen Cream which I tried) but this one does not. For the amount of ingredients, price tag, and being 98% organic I really love this product! The smell is nice but some people may not like it. I am sensitive to smells but it does not bother me. Fantastic!! I love it. It’s very difficult for me to find a suitable sunscreen as my skin is sensitive to chemical reactions so I opt for the mineral type but generally find zinc formulas so drying and unflattering for mature skin. This formula is super rich however with oils and beeswax to give it excellent staying power. It does dispense as a white cream but with ample massaging it does disappear completely to clear on my medium tone skin. It doesn’t spread around as easily as a lotion but I find it a minor drawback. It is also very thick and does feel oily and tacky on my face however this is preferable to the dry, wrinkle accentuating look I generally get from zinc. This is very rich and moisturizing and my skin looks great while wearing it - so healthy and moist!! The list of ingredients is impressive. Everything is organically sourced without a bunch of chemical terms. I’m very happy to have taken the plunge and invested in it. The orange oils give it a fabulous scent. The label may say for “kids” but it’s a refreshing citrusy scent that I don’t find too childish. Highly recommended. Read more

This is literally the absolute worst sunblock that I have ever used in my life. If I could give it zero stars, I would. I have extremely light skin and red hair. I used this sunblock generously at the beach. I reapplied after going in the water and I made sure that I put it on all areas of my skin that weren’t covered by clothing. I came home with one of the worst sunburns that I ever had. Redheads in particular need to be especially careful in the sun. Maybe this product works well for other people with darker hair/skin, but not for me. The one positive thing that I will say is that the thought behind the product is admirable. Using sunblock that doesn’t hurt coral reefs is important. It’s unfortunate that this didn’t work for me, as I had high hopes. Read more
