This does provide an understated hold, but maybe too understated for it's initial process. This is very goopy and you can see it in the hair for quite awhile after you apply it. No matter how much you blend or comb it in. I recommend using a good leave in conditioner if you want understated hold because it's the same type of result in my experience, only the leave in blends quicker and better. I'm surprised too... I had been on redken's get groomed creme for a while since it was the lightest hold I could find and didn't make my hair crusty. This one is very similar but has just a bit more hold which keeps my hair from going haywire in a windy city where redken's failed. Not bad. It takes a while before my boyfriend finds a hair cream that isn't too heavy or greasy on his hair. This stuff I can see on other hair types being a little oily and maybe heavy. What's nice is that isn't not so sticky. For thick hair, this helps manageability and style. I just recently started styling my hair after having long hair for years. I wanted something that would have a relatively natural look that doesn't make it obvious that I have product in my hair. This cream is perfect for that. Whether I go with a messy look or a clean part, this cream has worked well for multiple styles and it does not have a glossy look at all. The holding power is pretty decent and a finger tip is usually enough unless I want it to hold up a bit of hair.The jar comes in looking half empty but after a few uses it settles on the bottom and I still have plenty after a month of every day usage.A few minutes in a light rain is usually enough to undo the cream which is a bummer since it has rained every day this month, but humidity has not affected it at all.
