I've been taking these for about 6-7 weeks. In my opinion it's not realistic to take enzymes for a short period (although 6-7 weeks is not long) and make a good assessment.I use these because I have EPI (pancreatic insufficiency) and use pancreatic enzymes for proper digestion as prescribed by my doctor. I only share this as I can only speak from this viewpoint in regard to the Micrazym Pancreatic Enzymes.I've been using a popular prescription enzyme for a long period of time and as anyone who has used them, they know it's very expensive but it does work. However the expense makes it cost prohibitive for many.I have also tried several alternatives from Amazon, one of which seems to help a little but does not work sufficiently to replace the prescription. This does!For the last 6-7 weeks I replaced my prescription with these using comparable capsules each meal to approximately match the enzyme count with the prescription. I have slowly gained weight as I needed to. I have no side effects or real changes associated with my digestive track using these vs the prescription enzymes. Recently I switched dosage of the prescription enzymes as I had lost weight.The key to the difference between these and other enzymes is the Enteric Coating. This allows the enzymes to pass through the stomach into the gut. They really work! Additionally I don't notice a taste, I just swallow them with water.I have been so pleased with these and excited to writing this review but waited until I was sure.My sincere thanks to Micrazym for an inexpensive and comparable alternative to expensive prescription enzymes. I lost about 10% (17 lbs) of my body weight (which I did not need to lose) to what eventually was concluded to be caused by Pancreatic Insufficiency. I was given a small amount of Creon samples to try and in the first time in 4 months I put a couple pounds back on. With a copay of $850/month for Creon I went in search of alternatives. I have been using this Micrazym for ~2.5 weeks and I added another 10 lbs back on and lot of my energy back. I think the key is Micrazym (like Creon) uses an Enteric Coating ( most other pancreatic enzyme supplements do not but Creon does) ... this enteric coating allows the enzymes to stay viable while passing through the stomach and allows the in tact enzymes to get delivered to the small intestine where they are needed. I have tried so many products over the years but THIS STUFF works! I suffer from G.I. issues and have to be careful what I eat. Sometimes I will forget to take something before I eat and boy do I pay for it. I will be doubled over in pain and need to go lie down. Micrazym has worked like a little magic pill. I had half my pancreas and my duodenum removed during cancer surgery. Even with a fat restricted diet I was losing weight and experiencing “dumping.” My doc gave me samples of Creon, to make up for the enzymes my pancreas wasn’t producing. They were miracle drugs for me. In ONE day I was eating, within reason, whatever I wanted. My gastric issues were also nearly normal. After a week, I was even more sold on this stuff. Then I found out Creon is a tier 3 ( Medicare) drug and was going to cost me over 600 bucks a month! Ouch. So I searched for alternatives and found MICRAZYM which does not require prescription. The Creon I was taking is 36,000 units of Lipase while MICRAZYM is 25,000 units. So I tried the MICRAZYM for a week taking 4 where I would have taken 3 Creon and 5 where I would have taken 4 Creon. It seems to me after several weeks that the MICRAZYM acts exactly the same as Creon. I also tried one of the other OTC brand pancreatic enzyme capsules but it didn’t work as well. I think the difference is Creon and MICRAZYM coat the Pancreatin powder into granules so that the active enzymes get past the stomach acid and into the upper intestines where it can break down the food. I use It in place of Creon 25000. This one has more enzymes to absorb carbohydrates and proteins. But the side effect is having dry mouth at night. So I only take it during breakfast. Read more
