I'm conflicted in what star rating to leave for this product.In the end I decided to give 4 stars because the product quality is good and effective. But I do want to warn other people who might be sensitive to strong smells.I've used the coconut charcoal and found it very useful. Still a little bit of a BO smell after a long day/ short run/ coffee / nervous stress/ etc. But still a decent natural deodorant.I thought maybe having a bit of a scent to it would help counteract any persistent body odor. And it did. I couldn't smell anything aside from the deodorant actually. It was so strong.Truth be told, it gave me a headache. Maybe I'm sensitive to strong smells. Later, when I washed the shirt I had been wearing, everything else in that load of wash smelled of the deodorant too.If strong smells aren't a problem for you, you'll probably really enjoy this. But just be forewarned. It is VERY potent.On a functionality side note. I've found using a crystal deodorant first, letting it dry, then applying Alaffia deodorant is the most protection for long days of running about. Read more

I switched to this from Schmidt's activated charcoal deodorant, which was effective but messy and had an inconsistent texture that caused it to run out super quickly. This product has a good texture but doesn't do much in the way of odor protection.The fragrance is super strong going on, in my opinion too strong, but then I just end up having pits that smell like lavender tinged BO.So far I haven't even worn this outside for activity, only inside, and find myself a sweaty stinky mess halfway through each day. I didn't experience that with Schmidt's. I apply this product before bed, after my nightly shower, and sometimes I'm wet and stinky by the time I wake up in the morning.I also don't like the stains it leaves on all my shirts.I sweat like crazy with it, even though I was under the impression from the other brand that activated charcoal is supposed to help with that, which is why I bought this product at all. Might as well just sprinkle some lavender oil in my pits and nothing else at that rate.EDITAfter using this for a few weeks, my pits are now broken out in a rash. I switched from Dove to this and I LOVE THIS! This deodorant is perfect. It's natural and the lavender scent smells so good!! It has no aluminum and it lasts me so long. I use it every day but one deodorant can last me 6 months. I highly recommend this especially if you are switching over from a synthetic deodorant. Also, to switch over you cannot apply anything to your armpits for one week just to make sure all the toxins from the last product are out of your system. After one week you can start using again. I'll preface this by saying I'm a guy, and I typically do not write reviews.I immensely enjoy Alaffia products (deodorant, night cream, body lotion) and recommend them to friends all the time because they feel simple, safe, and their scents aren't overpowering. However, this product is not similarly "light" and natural smelling as the rest of their products. Firstly, I could smell the patchouli before I opened the box. I saw previous reviews here saying the smell was very potent, nothing like bergamot, etc and I thought that they were just not used to natural smells... but it is insane. Needless to say, I technically got what I paid for but I'm probably not going to use the product even though I can't return it. I'm so sad that they got rid of the mandarin ginger scent. I am a middle aged woman, moderate activity level, with normal to sensitive skin. I have not used traditional/chemical deodorant/antiperspirant for over 15 years. In my experience, the longer you're 'off' chemical deodorants/antiperspirants, the better results you'll get with 'clean' deodorants. Stinky toxins take time to work out of the system so if you are jumping into using this product directly after a traditional product, it may not keep you from stink immediately. Doing an underarm detox can help.:)What I like:- The scent. Its very much 'there' without being overpowering. My husband and I share deodorant and he likes the lavender scent as much as the bergamot.- The deodorizing. It does its job! I do reapply if I've been sweating a lot and it still works to cover/eliminate odor. Some crystal deodorants require washing pits before reapplication but this seems to work without that.What I don't like:- A little mushy. I've had about 50/50 luck with really mushy/soft product and more firm, smooth product. It just takes some finesse not to glob on a bunch. Works pretty well for a natural deodorant. You will most likely need to apply twice daily for complete odor protection. I found the consistency of the deodorant a bit odd. It's more like a semi-solid, spreads like mayo, but dries quickly. The consistency does make it difficult to apply without getting it everywhere. Smell is top notch!Edit (7/25/2017): I'm upgrading my rating to 4 stars. After wearing this product daily for several months I noticed the odor that would normally appear after 7+ hours decreasing until it practically quit appearing all together. I now only re-apply if I'm going to yoga/other exercises. Additionally, this deodorant does not leave stains in the armpit area of my shirts after washing. I do wish the consistency was a bit thicker so it would get all over the container when applying. Read more

I purchased this product a few months ago and have been using it ever since. First off, I really like the smell and like the fact that it glides on easily. Unfortunately, I sweat a lot and found that it did not hold well in masking the smell. I can see how this would be great for someone that does not sweat a lot. You need an antiperspirant. Read more

Tried to do the Natural deodrant thing but unfortunately this product isn’t for me. I had to carry it with me throughout the day and reapply to prevent me from becoming self conscious about B.O. I used it for about 3 weeks before i switched, maybe if I had stuck with it longer my body would have adjusted but 3 weeks using it and working closely with people just wasn’t for me. Read more
