What more can I add to the praise that has been rightfully heaped onto Mr Cole, other to speak of my growing awareness and appreciation of the body of work he left behind. I also have albums of his excellent piano playing. Although he wasn't as great a ground breaker as other Jazz Pianists, he was perhaps the deftest of accompanists, maybe due to his peerless singing abilities. The album is very pleasurable and interesting also because you get to listen the maturation and deepening of Cole's voice throughout the years that the album traces. You here his voice turn from a sweet tenor to roundly resonant, velvet baritone, unique in it's range and control. A singer's vote is affected by all sorts of external influences, I wonder if the cigarettes that killed him, also contributed to his uniquely beautiful sound. Such a shame. Maybe the most beautiful and haunting is is singular rendition of Stardust. I can't stop listening to it. Sometimes, I think that humanity reached it's zenith of evolution with that recording. I once heard an amazing rendition on Sirius XM Real Jazz where he sang Stardust, but was only backed up by a Piano, but I haven't been able to run that down,He was such a suave, sophisticated, genial, welcoming and deeply intelligent artist. I dance with my wife to this all the time. He and the other great musicians who've passed are one of the many reason's I hope that God exists and that Heaven is a huge swinging Hall filled with the the sound of an eternal Jam session. And Nat is up on the bandstand, serenading us all while God snaps his fingers to the beat. Read more

Nat King Cole's voice has always had a special effect on me. Before my dad passed away in 2013, we always sat in his record room and listened to him. This 3 cd set, really brings tears to my eyes. Read more

Nat King Cole. One of the most mellifluous voices ever. Simply quite amazing. A lot of evening/night music on this CD. Whether you like Blues, Jazz or any of the other big genres of the era, you should like this.Yes, there are one or two of the famous tracks not present here; but at least this calls itself an "Essential" collection, not a "Complete" one!
