it's like a round crimp and i love it! my hair has gotten so thin. to be honest i have curly curly hair but i do straighten it about 50% of the time. on subsequent days after i straighten it - i like to add a little a body with an electric curly or this 5-barrel. i absolutely love the look this 5-barrel gives. it's less curly than my actual curls. it's a decent amount of body and super great for thin hair to give the illusion of more hair.it's very easy to use - just like a crimper really. easier to use than an actual curling iron because you really just press and move on. once you do first pass you can go back and easily get any spots you missed or just didnt get the look you wanted. once i was done with the look i used a bit of oil (very slight) to finish it.i really enjoy this look. it's not a curled beachy wave but still a fun beachy wave that just looks really great. I use the curling wand to try and curl 2 different wigs. It works but it requires you to keep the wand on the hair for a few minutes before moving down the hair to get the waves in the hair. It seems to require more heat than a regular curling iron to get the curls. Since I mainly got this to apply to my wigs and not my own hair as I don’t put heat to my own hair for fear of the damage as it’s already thin, this works for me. This curler is not really a curler. It's a waver. It makes lots of small waves. But I LOVE it! It does everything I wanted it to do. I have curly hair. It can be a little unruly and frizzy. This iron takes care of those issues. I have a larger 1" barrels which I liked but the waves/curls fell out quickly because they were so big. These 1/2" barrels give me tighter waves that last. It gives my hair shine also. There is a trick to using it. You have to figure out which way to turn the barrels. You want the bottom barrel to be near the root of your hair. Otherwise, it sticks out at the bottom. When you go to the other side, you have to reverse that. So it can be tricky. After working with it for awhile, you'll get the hang of it. This heats up quickly. I hate that you can't change it to Fahrenheit. But I looked up the temperature I wanted and found what it would be in Celsius. Now I just set it to that temperature. This has a very long cord. The first time I used it, it smelled like something was burning. I was afraid I had burned my hair. But it was just the newness of the barrels. I got such volume with this curler. I have thinning hair but this helped to make it look fuller. After applying the iron all over my hair, I let it cool down. Then I turned my head upside down and combed through it with my fingers. Wow! The volume was fantastic. I sprayed it with a little hair spray to extend the hold. This thing does a great job! My hair is naturally very straight and flat and have just no coordination to curl my hair:). This iron is foolproof!I like that it has an on/off switch and that it has the temp. I had to ask Alexa to concerts Celsius to Fahrenheit for me to make sure I wouldn’t singe my hair :)Heats up fast and tells you the temp as it heats so you can easily tell when it’s ready. Easy to use and manage. Light weight for being such a big tool but not cumbersome to maneuver about. Temp is all in Celsius and not changeable to Fahrenheit but that is a non issue. I like the adjustable temps depending on your hair type. I am NOT good with doing my hair but loved the results this produced. It definitely makes those beachy waves that I like so much. I try a smaller version less than an inch but my hair is long so this version makes a better look for longer hair. I really like how fast it heats up and how within 5 seconds I can move to another section, it really don't need much more than that to get the job done, at least with my thin hair. Read more

Beautiful crimper. I will say as someone that is use to a smaller old school crimper this was a bit large and harder to use, but amazing results do come out of it. Right when it turns on it reads you the temperature as is going up, it only takes a few seconds to curl my hair, much faster than any of my curlers, and what I like the most is that as hours went by the waves look more nicer and natural.
