I got the wide. I have a lot of hair (every time I get it cut the stylist comments on it. I got an undercut where I shaved half of the back of my head off and that gave me a slightly thicker than average ponytail), and it holds better than a bobby pin for holding flyaways and bangs type of thickness, but won't hold your hair if you're pinning like more than an inch of the front of your hair back in 2 places. And because it's tighter than a bobby pin, it can pull on your hair when removing. It's a tradeoff. The reason is that most of us are used to just grabbing the bobby pin from the end and pulling it easily out of our hair--'cause it has a gap and holds looser. Clips like this do not have that gap so that they hold tighter. To prevent it from pulling/breaking your hair, you need to put your finger in the opening (like you do when you're about to put it in) to create that space, and keep your finger there until you've pulled it all the way out. These absolutely rip your hair out. They're super tightly closed, if that makes sense, and have little or no give. It's difficult to put them in your hair because they're so tight and harder to get out. The width is nice and the colors are nice but ripping my hair out is not nice. Read more

I've tried all sorts of barrettes, combs, pins to keep my hair pulled out of my face and they all have failed. They either fell out, pulled my hair to the hurting degree, or just weren't strong enough to keep all the hair off my face and I do hate it when I have hair dangling when I'm trying to do something and my hands are too yucky to brush the hair away, and I don't want to keep brushing and brushing the stuff every 3 seconds. These are wide enough to hold my hair but I end up using 5 or 6 of them to keep all the little bits from rubbing my neck and face and ears at night. I find that the painted ones (black & brown) tend to have rough spots where the paint isn't even, and over time a little paint chips off making the pin rip out a strand or two of hair when I pull them off (and I can't afford to lose too much more hair). But they are the best I can find to use on my hair. I do not get them wet because I'm not sure how good they are against rust; I switch to those beauty salon-type alligator clips when I step into the shower or to pin my hair up so it doesn't drip on me (I've never used a hair dryer). I have super straight, glossy hair. I usually need to criss-cross 3 or 4 bobby pins to hold my hair. These bobby pins are so tight and thick that a single one can hold a lot of my hair all day long without slipping at all. To remove it I carefully open the pin and push my hair through it. Otherwise it would rip my hair since it's so tight. It's perfect for me. All other bobby pins are way too loose to hold my hair in place. Read more

These are great as a less obvious alternative to clips or combs. They hold at least as well, and they’re very strong. They also come on a nice leather holder which holds tightly enough that you could drop it in your purse, and they would all stay on the holder! I got them in blonde, and they match my hair well. Not a bad thing about them! Highly recommended! Read more

These pins are simple and nice-looking. They hold my hair well enough but they're not too grabby. I haven't had a problem at all with them tearing my hair or being hard to take out--other pins I've bought, yes, but not these. I'm satisfied. Read more

Nice bobby pins. Work great but very expensive for what they are. But then again, hard to find the wide ones anywhere. The leather holder they come in is overkill if you ask me. I feel like I paid for the packaging. Read more
