The first unit of this gum I bought a couple months ago was fine, but this canister has a very strong and toxic burnt rubber/plastic smell when I opened it. The lid by itself smells ok so I can only conclude the smell is coming from the gum itself. I chewed one piece and can taste the same toxic burning plastic flavor. Ok, I was looking for alternatives to synthetic plastic-based gums and I believe I've found it! There is nothing unnatural about this gum from the research I've done on it (Glee Gum pretends to be "natural" but their gum-base is synthetic; even if they use natural flavors/colors and other natural ingredients).The only downside is the taste doesn't last long in either the Cinnamon (omg, the Cinnamon flavor rocks!!) nor the Peppermint (I've tried both), but you still get a bit of lingering flavor if you chew it long enough (just not as strong as the first few minutes). Also, the gum stays soft, in case you want something to continue chewing on (for those of us trying to keep our mouths busy; enough to not bite our fingernails). All in all, I am looking forward to trying their other flavors. So glad this gum exists for those of us seeking natural alternatives to plastic-based gums. To be honest, up until recently, I had no idea I've been chewing plastic for as long as I can remember (since Reagan was in office!!!). :) In my defense, not many consumers know that gum is plastic-based. I have been a long time customer of Spry Xylitol Peppermint gum. The newest formula, with the dark blue labels, is unappetizing. I got a very strong burnt plastic smell on opening 100 piece jar. It smells like drift smoke from a fire. My advice is not to buy this! Read more

I'm comparing this to my regular gum I use which is Eclipse. I wanted to change over due to the Xylitol in this gum but have been severely disappointed in it's functionality. I suffer from dry mouth so typically I have a piece of gum behind my gums that I don't chew, I just use it to encourage saliva flow and also to give me some flavor. 1 piece of Eclipse gum used this way easily lasts 3-4 hours. With the Spry gum it initially had a really nice burst of flavor, and the flavor is very good, but it only lasted about 20 minutes. After 20 minutes there was no flavor left and my dry mouth came back. At that point I tried chewing them and they really did have no flavor left.I might keep these around mainly for the Xylitol, but for dry mouth or even for someone who just wants a good gum they aren't very good at all. I've used Spry gum in the past, but did not remember that it was so very strong & minty. Either the jar I had before was stale or this is just very fresh. The very sweet, strong mint flavor is too much for me. In addition, I bought this knowing that the sweetener they use is xylitol, which can cause stomach problems if you swallow too much of it. For example, chewing many pieces of this Spry gum every day will probably give you stomach problems. The problems will go away when you stop eating it, but it can be unpleasant. I will chew this gum 1/2 piece at a time once a day when my mouth feels dry, and hope the "bite" quiets down now that the container is open! Read more

As a gum-addict, I had chewed the store brand gum for my whole life, going from Trident to Extra to whatever I could find on sale and indulging in the ever-loved bubble gum balls. I had heard about Xylitol but I didn't pay much attention until I had a root canal and decided to take another look at oral care. I switched to an all natural toothpaste and decided to go with Xylitol gum and cut down on my sugar intake. I expected the gum to taste terrible since it was a healthier alternative, but this gum is awesome! It holds the flavor longer than I expected, and is just the right size to chew with just one piece instead of needing two. It's safer for my teeth so I feel better about it. I have tried both the peppermint and spearmint version and like them both, but peppermint always seems to me to be more of a breath freshener than spearmint, so I usually go with this one. It is in health food stores but is far more expensive that way. I always buy it on Amazon because the price is so much better. I haven't paid attention to whether it's the same seller or varied sellers, the product is the same and I always like it. It's truly all I have chewed for over 16 months now. My dental hygienist asked me what I was doing differently as she hardly had any work to do for my 6 month cleaning; I told her I'm using natural toothpaste and chewing this Xylitol gum. I'm not brushing more frequently and only cut back on sugar in my diet. So, I figure, the little extra I spend on this gum, if I do, is far less than the amount I am saving in dental work! Read more

I had three containers of spry peppermint gum. Two had a different style of printing on the bottom showing the lot number, dot matrix numbers, lighter and bigger and more spread out than the other. Those two had a horrible chemical smell when I opened them and when I tried the gum I had to spit it out immediately, it tasted Ilike it was toxic. The one with the smaller, darker, closer together printing of the lot number tasted normal. Won't be able to order online anymore since you can't look at the lot number on the bottom. I was given a sample of this gum 8+ yrs ago at my dental office after my routine cleaning.Turns out the Xylitol in it is really good for your teeth and cleaning them when brushing is not an option! At the time it was hard to find, only health food stores carried it. So glad Amazon stocks it and in the 100ct! My go to flavor is Peppermint but the Green Tea is really nice as well.
