My husband is a dentist whose high opinion of xylitol comes from much research he performed on a population with poor oral hygiene and an incidence of high tooth decay. Children chewed 2 pieces of xylitol gum per day - one in the morning and one before going to bed. (Too much xylitol causes stomach discomfort, so follow dosage directions.). His dental team discovered a significant decrease in new tooth decay over time within the study group. (Note that this product does not heal tooth decay but prevents future decay.). It's a natural, healthy product that won't cause any negative side effects unless you overdose. It acts to change the pH of your mouth so that decay struggles to set in. Our own children have used xylitol products since they were old enough to eat solid foods. First we used mints and then progressed to gum. Our kids chew two pieces of gum every night after teeth are brushed and before bedtime. Today, they are ages 12 and 9 and neither of them has had a cavity yet. Granted they are children of a dentist so good oral hygiene is a regular routine in our home, but I've watched them both brush and not floss their teeth - its pretty lacking. Having an extra weapon in the fight to minimize tooth decay is a no brainer in my book. We've tried many different brands but enjoy the flavors that Spry has to offer. My kids love the fruit flavored, spearmint, and cinnamon gum. We all love the lemon mints. The peppermint flavored gum and mints (which I love) are a bit too spicy for our kids' tastes. The 600 count container is a better value than these smaller containers, but its nice to have the small containers for travel or refill. Spry is a great product! Ugh WHYYYYYY! Why are companies always changing their products for the worse?Like other recent reviews have mentioned, the product currently pictured is not what was received. What I received is in red metallic packaging, and the ingredients have changed (most notably no longer containing cinnamon oil, but "natural flavors,") and the gum now tastes bad. But, of course, it can't be returned.I loved this gum before. Sure, the flavor didn't last forever, but as far as natural gum went, it was the best I could find. NOT ANYMORE. Goodbye, Spry Gum.UPDATE 6/2019: I'm still so upset about the change in formula. I called Xlear and they said others have provided similar feedback, but they have no intention of changing the formula back any time soon. Other xylitol gums are more expensive and/or taste weird. The product shown is made with cinnamon oil. The product I received has a different label and is made with "natural flavors", which informed people know is not actually natural. "Natural flavor" is created in a laboratory to taste like the real thing.The reason I wanted the gum with truly natural cinnamon oil is because the flavor of the gum lasts a long time. 99% of the time I write good reviews because the products that I typically order are good to excellent products. However, This product that I received is not the same as advertised and not the same as I have so many times ordered before. The cinnamon in this gum is much too strong, and it loses its flavor quickly and it becomes too hard to chew much too soon. So for this reason, I will not be purchasing this gum again. Absolutely my favorite gum. It's a bit stiff at first and the flavor isn't particularly durable, but otherwise Spry cinnamon might be perfect. Go elsewhere if you need fiery heat or if you want a thickly resistant blob to chew. Stay here if you appreciate an old-school chiclet experience where each piece crunches at the start and gets totally smooth by the time its flavor begins fading away. Spry is sugar-free and as such is actually kinda' good for your teeth to boot (but be sure not to let any dogs get a hold of this stuff, because xylitol is highly toxic to the non-tooth kind of canines!) Lastly is the packaging: Spry is available in very-reusable & easily-recyclable containers that add bulk-quantity affordability while minimizing waste. This aspect is what really makes Spry cinnamon a no-brainer in my book: totally delicious, with a fun and refreshing chomping experience, as well as more-sustainable packaging that doesn't force you to throw out tiny bits of plastic and foil whenever you grab a piece. As other reviewers have mentioned - the composition changed and the gum now has a distinctly unpleasant flavor. The flavor itself does not last long either.Notable changes to the ingredient list:1. Cinnamon Oil is now Natural Flavors (which I hope we all know by now is an umbrella term to hide other ingredients - many of which are definitely not natural)2. Calcium Carbonate is now before Gum Arabic (I don't know enough to say anything about this)3. Soy Lecithin is now Sunflower LecithinI messaged Xlear directly about these changes as well and they said they would pass my complaint along to their quality department.My containers are being given away to my less discerning coworkers. I’ve been chewing this gum for almost 10 years. The packaging was new this time, and it’s a new formula too. The flavor is downright awful. It’s incredibly spicy, overwhelming cinnamon, along with what seems to be mint and licorice. Not totally sure because I spat it out, and it just says “natural flavors” in the ingredients. Now I have 199 pieces that I have absolutely no interest in. Don’t know where I’ll find another cinnamon xylitol gum. Very disappointed that they made this change. Read more
