After installing these locks, I feel MUCH, MUCH more secure in my home, knowing the locks are latched and helping to protect their doors. Alternatively -- If your goal is to simply stop a young child from opening the door -- I suspect they are also great for that purpose. I have about 5 decades experience in evaluating home security to prevent break-ins, and I can recommend buying these locks to help reinforce the integrity of a locked door. Keep in mind, though -- there should be no doubt that these locks are ONLY to complement and be used with other door locks ... for instance, it's critical that you also have at least dead-bolts and/or locks in door handles; under no circumstance would I recommend using only these locks. And, I can attest that after I installed them, I believe they add a nice, firm pressure to help keep a door closed. As an experiment to help evaluate MY latches, I had my wife lock me out on the 'other' side, and I then applied a lot of 'normal' force pushing against the door -- it would not budge, and seems like a very good first step protection. HOWEVER, I had no desire to try and beat my door to death, and I did not make any effort to kick in or otherwise try any extreme effort to break the door or door frame. You have to believe that If someone wants to get into your house -- there is always a weak link, and this lock will not stop a determined effort. It will, however, cause a criminal to either make a lot of noise getting through the door, or force the criminal to another entrance, or perhaps be enough of a deterrent to make him think of simply abandoning attempts to get into your house. These locks did not get 5-stars from me ONLY BECAUSE the provided screws are crap -- and working with theses screws significantly alters how easily these locks are installed. The provided screws are certainly long enough, but the screw heads have no structural integrity, and once there is a just a little 'normal' force required to screw them in tightly -- the screw heads will quickly self destruct. This is a very, very inexpensive and simple fix that the Sellers should immediately make; there are good, strong screws available that will not significantly add to the Seller's expense -- and including them will give the Sellers many, many more 5-Star Reviews. By the way -- It is also stupid that the nice bronze locks are provided with steel/chrome-colored screws ... come on, how hard can it be for the manufactures to simply color the heads to match the lock color?!? Just received the product today and pretty happy about it as described installation was easy as well I just didn’t use the screws it with used longer screws that’s at everybody’s discretion. I decided to install it towards the bottom because for example if someone kicks the door they will kick the bottom of the door which the lock will absorb the pressure there instead of being on the top that’s just my personal belief.
