I have fine strands, high porosity, high density, 4b curls, bottom-of-sternum length hair. Used this over the Hawaiian ginger hair butter to do singles/mini braids (no added hair) and used a little more than half the jar. Applied on soaking wet hair. My braids looked nice and sleek upon completion but they did get a slightly frizzy, lived-in look in about a week. The finger coils at the end of my braids have stayed super defined. IF it weren't for the smell I would use this again to do a style that needed a soft hold and decent moisture for a few days, because it doesn't feel like it causes build up at allme. I hate strong artificial smells so after I run through this I will not be repurchasing.PROS:- no residue/flakes/cast after drying (I deep conditioned before applying and topped with whipped shea butter)- no slimy buildup feel when I remoisturize, even though I used a ton- light/soft gel- completely breaks down under heavy oils, which I like because I rarely wash my hair.CONS/NEUTRAL:- poor slip, kind of sticky.- thin, no spreadability. Had to use SO MUCH to decently cover my strands. Not worth it for longer hair.- CANNOT lay dry kinky hair at all. It kept flyaways down at the initial application where my hair was soaking wet, but it can't lay my edges or my dry flyaways a week later.- not a good sealant after a few days. Wouldn't use for long-term protective styles.- decent temporary hold for a 'natural' gel (although I only had it in braids, I've heard it has no hold for wash n go's.)- strong artificial floral perfume scent caught me off guard. Smell dies down after a few weeks but it took me days to finish my hair and coming back to that smell every time was not fun.Picture: half my hair shrunken because it's done drying, the other half is still wet. White film is the gel mixing with my whipped shea butter sealant, it goes away completely after drying. If my braids look weird it's because they end as two strand twists with finger coiled ends. I am a 40 + female with dry natural hair. I purchased this because it is designed for overnight use. I shampoo my hair weekly with a moisturizing shampoo then condition and used this as a overnight deep conditioner. The products I use are sulfate free. I used this product AFTER shampooing because conditioners are made to close the hair cuticle. I do not co -wash, I did try this after using a clarifying shampoo twice. I didn't notice a difference to the softness of my hair or being easier to detangle. The ingredients are a major deal for me and that should have prevented me from purchasing this product. I used Shea moisture manuka honey and marfura oil shampoo before applying this and returned to the deep conditioner ( manuka honey and marfura oil). I don't use heat on my hair and I wear it in a twist and go style. I used this Mielle product at least 4 times before writing a review. It has a nice soft smell but I didn't buy it for just that reason. I often purchase items based on other's reviews and wanted to give a honest review to others' as well. This is a very mediocre product in my opinion. It provides light hydration to my 3c hair. When I use this i need to add another leave in conditioner to make sure my hair is moisturized and thriving. I love the smell though and I love the affordability. I would recommend this product maybe for looser textures because they tend to need less moisture than tighter textures. If you’re looking for heavy duty moisture use the Pomegranate Honey Leave in Conditioner also by Mielle Organics. Overall, this is a good product, though. Read more

I have fine, low porosity medium density 2c-3a curly hair. I tried a few different styling techniques with this gell and did not have any luck with getting a cast or a decent hold. I applied to wet hair in shower, plopped and then air dried. I also skipped plopping. Also tried as a restyling without shower rewet. Read more

I was hoping this product would slick my hair down but it would only stay layed for a a little while and it didn't get it as slick as I would like it but, I think this would be a great twist/braid out product. It helps lock in moisture and gives great shine. I would buy it again but as a braid/twist out styling tool. Read more
