This modern version of the abacus has beads in five colors and number grids horizontally and vertically on the outer edges of the 9" X 6" Frame. Around the world, many cultures use the abacus in pre-schools and Elementary schools as an aid in teaching the numeral system and arithmetic. Each bead and each wire has the same value and used in this way it can represent numbers up to 100.

As a homeschooling family an abacus that was well constructed, durable and yet user friendly was a must. This fits the bill all around. Previous to this I have never used a slide abacus like this style, but now I prefer it over the traditional model. My son is 5 and the pieces move easily and the numbers at the top and side as easy to read. They line up exactly with the beads. Highly recommend. Read more

It's as expected. Please check the dimensions, as it is smaller than what you would normally find for an abacus. But this fits my needs exactly for my child who is learning to add 2 digit numbers and learning about place values. It works for both left and right handed kids, as the numbers are labelled on both sides. It doesn't take a huge amount of space, will not break as some wooden abacus will do, and you won't be stuck with a huge abacus around the house once the child outgrows them. When we are done with online math problems, it can be put away neatly between books on the shelf. Read more

Arrived quickly, it’s good quality (slides easily, well made), and we will be using it for our three homeschoolers. Looking forward to less frustrating math time! Read more

I bought this to assist with counting rows when I crochet. It works very well. There is no stand but it lies flat and the counters glide smoothly. Sometimes I prop it on my ipad stand if I need it upright. I'm very pleased with how I use it and how simple it is to keep count. It's actually a better choice than my usual digital stitch counter because it's larger and I never forget to change the count as the reminder is large enough and bright enough to remind me.I also lay it on my pattern instructions to feature the line I'm reading when there is a complicated series of pattern rows. It's smaller than a sheet of paper and lightweight. I've dropped it a couple of times and it hasn't broken. Read more

I appreciate the 100's grid marked both vertically and horizontally. It would have been a greatasset had I discovered it sooner in my lengthy career as an elementary school educator. Now,I hope to use it with my two year old grandson to gain math concepts. However, what I'm doing at the present isusing it keep track of the 25 yard lengths of the pool in which I swim laps regularly. It makesme so much more competitive with myself and I swim many more laps since I started usingthis abacus as a tool to track my distance. Read more

This is a good product. It is sturdy, but we will see how long it lasts as I have two children 5 and 7. I ordered one at what I thought was a decent price (around $15). Kids liked it so much, they each wanted their own as they are doing at home learning this year. I went to order another, but the price had doubled. This capitalization is unconscionable as families are already struggling with paying for at home learning supplies, desks, computer peripherals etc. Then to double the price of a resource that is already at a premium? Shame on these sellers. So, yes, it is a great product. No, it is not $30 plus dollars great as it is all plastic. Read more

Bought a Japanese-style abacus (Soroban) for our 8YO son before this, but he was having a little problem with the concept of 1 bead being worth 5 beads and is more inclined to count by ones. I bought this one hoping it would be a simpler concept, and he's done so much better! The first night we got this, he was using it for his homework, a worksheet with problems adding various 3-digit numbers. He zipped right through it, really understood the concept, and was actually having fun.Someday, we'll get back to the soroban. But for now this is working just great, and his younger brother will also be using it eventually.Good durable and colorful plastic. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another if we needed to at this price. Great concept and good learning tool that can actually make math fun. Read more

This abacus is truly great. When I first got it I was a little disappointed that it was all plastic and seemed kind of cheapy. But it works great and I've grown to really love it. I'm homeschooling my daughter and it's been so valuable in teaching her about numbers, adding, subtracting and place values. She thinks it's fun and likes to use it. I like the compact yet functional size of this abacus. It doesn't have a stand so it just lies flat on the table, but that doens't seem to be a problem. We also use it to make pictures, which is not only fun, but also helps my daughter better understand patterns. Definitely happy with this product. Read more
