The item, Diane Nylon Reinforced Boar Bristle Brush with Firm Bristles for Thick Coarse Hair – Use for Smoothing, Styling, Wave Styles, Club Handle, D8159. This item appears to be very well made. Boar bristles mixed with nylon bristles embedded in a lightweight wood. Not sure why but the bristles of the brush would not even go through my hair, which is coarse and thick. The bristles do not appear to be extra firm as listed on the package or firm as noted in the description on line. It might be good for someone with thin coarse hair but certainly not for thick hair. Very disappointed and would love to find a brush that would work nicely through thick coarse hair. It will have to be returned and the journey continues. Read more

I so wanted to like this because I have super thick hair and need a hard bristled brush to get through it all. Unfortunately, the bristles are too short, almost exactly like the brush for my short-haired dog, so they barely get past the top layer of my hair. Even a friend with very fine hair needed to push in really hard to get all the bristles through. Make the bristles longer and it will be perfect! Read more

I bought this brush to have on hand in my office, after using a boar bristle brush at home for the last year or so. Because I wasn't going to be using it as often I went with a less expensive brush like this one, and I can tell the difference. I have been using the Ambassador olive wood hair brush (costs about 5x more), and it feels and works much better. I have short, straight hair, and even so, this Diane brush does not brush the hair into place without more effort and more attempts. I think the hairs are not as thick, or there aren't as many (I've never laid them side by side because one is in the office and one is at home). It still gets the job done, however, I am much more pleased with the Ambassador brush, both in terms of its utility and the way it feels in the hand. This is a good inexpensive brush in its own right based on price, but against at least one competitor, it does not measure up. Read more

I have been buying Diane Bruges for years because I like the firmness of the bristle that get to my scalp. It was kinda soft. I order the same firm number as I’ve always get. Kinda disappointed. Read more

The brush smells terrible! I thought i could wash it maybe something spilled on it?? No it is just the smell of the brush! I washed it with dish soap 2 times.... And the smell came right back. I washed it again with a strong anti bacterial soap and then poured 91% ribbong alcohol on it amd let ot sit just to be double safe it was not a scalp bacteria thing or something..... Still smells!! Unfortunately I told my husband to throw it in the trash. We just ordered a different brand. Hopefully we wont be expierencing the same thing. Read more

I have purchased a couple other boar bristle brushes and have been disappointed that they won't do anything more than slide down the topmost outer "layer" of my hair - nothing under that even gets touched by the bristles, as they are just way too soft.THIS brush, however, DOES work well, and DOES get through to the hairs underneath the topmost layer, so it does a MUCH better job of smoothing ALL of my hair, and distributing the natural oils on more than just the very top/outside layer. The handle is a little bit shorter than I would have liked, but it is still comfortable and made from beautiful wood. This is a very nice quality brush; it is hard to find brushes these days that are wood, and have boar bristles like this. And you really can't beat it for the money - fabulous deal at just $3.49 with free Prime shipping!! Read more

I like firm bristles on a brush. Soft may be ok, but i like for my hair to lay flat. Firm bristles do it. Read more

I have a shorter beard and use this with Percy Noblemans beard oil. The combination works well as the oil stays with the bristles for next time. I'd say the bristles are a bit sharp on the ends on my skin for a shorter beard and I thought would have been softer so I do have to go gently. However the bristles are good and stiff with little flex which is what you need. Read more

It could be harder, because my hair is 4c and it needs the hardest of the hard brush to slick down so I can achieve a slick back bun, but it still worked. If this brush works for my short, thick, and coarse 4c hair, than it can sure work for yours! Read more
