One of the ingredients in Desitin is zinc oxide which can be harmful if ingested by your dog(s) in large amounts. So stick with a small smear.We also trim the fur around the affected area and clean it twice a day with baby wipes. That also gives you a timely visual to determine your progress. My 15 year old son did not have a big problem with baby rash until after he started teething. It got bad one day and it was really red and there was even some blood (dry skin). We asked our pediatrician what we should do and he recommended using Desitin. It got cleared up withing 6 days and even after a day you could see it was working!
