Ok, so let me begin by saying it's entirely possible I'm enabling at least five of these adorable rodents' eating disorders. At my lowest I was buying up to 18 pounds of corn on the cob a week. It wasn't all my fault; they'd sit there with that expectant look, suggesting without words that the picked-clean cob was proof I had forsaken them. The guilt gnawed at me as ferocious as my squirrel family gnaws at corn. I became obsessed. There had to be corn cobs at all times. It was my job. My duty. My singular purpose for living. And then I found these. Rather than 4-5 cobs a day, one log will last 3-4 days, making sure that I don't overlook an empty squirrel feeder and inadvertently trigger a rodent revolution the likes of which the world has never seen. It's possible these logs have not only saved my life, but the lives of countless others. Highly recommend! Read more

At first the squirrels totally ignored these logs. I even tried smearing other attractive foods (nut butter / fruit puree etc.) on the outside to try to attract the squirrel's attention to the logs. All that happened was that the squirrels licked the tasty stuff off and left the less appetizing log untouched.I basically gave up, but left the log in place anyway. After a couple of months of being completely untouched, the log started disappearing rapidly. A replacement went the same way in just a few days. Now we have both squirrels and birds feeding on these seemingly non-stop, and loud screeching from the squirrels alerts us when the log has been finished ; they sit there waiting for the replacement. So, if your logs also go ignored for quite some time - you may want to just leave them rather than remove them. I'm tired of the squirrels harassing the birds on our balcony feeders. I've used Cole's hot oil which deters the squirrels, but I also like to watch their antics. Last time I purchased corn ears, lots of moths emerged from the corn, so no more ears. These round logs are attracting the squirrels so I can watch their crazy upside down antics.Since hanging one, I haven't seen a squirrel even contemplate the bird feeders. Several days in, the logs have been visibly gnawed on the edges and are holding up despite 12 of the last 14 days raining. I may try putting some peanut butter on them to see if it increases the squirrel attraction. The holes on both sides of the log were way too big for any screws I have here at home, including the one built into my feeder. I unbent an old wire hanger, ran the hanger through the center hole, and then twisted the ends together to form a figure 8. It's currently hanging from a double Shepard's hook plant/feeder hanger and the shape of the hook prevents it from being removed by the squirrels. Read more

I have ordered these a lot and NEVER had any issue. This last order was stored in a cupboard in my garage, just like I have done for years, and I started to notice a lot of little moths (?) in my garage. I didn't think anything of it, until I opened the cupboard to get a fresh log for my squirrels and a LOT of these moths flew out. I picked up one of the 2 packs to open it and saw this worm looking thing. On closer inspection, there were a LOT of worm and egg looking things inside the sealed package! I looked at all of them and they were ALL infested. I will be throwing them out as I have no idea what kind of bug or moth these are and don't want to make the squirrels sick. Disgusting! Read more

These "squirrel logs" are a compressed mixture of sweet corn and preservatives & binders with a small hole in the center for mounting on a separately supplied "feeder". They are pretty dense and squirrels will chew a lot to get what they're after so the product lasts a relatively long time on the feeder. When I first started using these, the long screw on the feeder was a poor match for the center hole and the log was loose so the squirrels being smart as they are, would pack off the whole log as soon as it was chewed down to the point of being light enough to carry. I filled the hole on one with heat-melt glue which adhered to the screw. The squirrels were smart enough to quit eating when they got to the hot-glue so that left what was on the screw and made a tight fit for subsequent logs which are now snug and don't come off. Bad for log bandits, but good for squirrel feeding and watching. Good product - squirrels have to find it before they really begin to eat it, but then a lot of returning customers. Read more

I previously wrote a good review based on the product I had purchased at the store and figured these were exactly the same. I can no longer recommend them. The ones bought at Home Depot they love -- devour them in a couple days. For some reason these they will barely touch. They are almost petrified and get even harder as they sit outside.I have to think there is something wrong with this particular brand or shipment. I'm going back to the store bought ones. Wish I could get a refund -- but i've actually opened up many of them just trying to find any that they would eat. Read more

I'm trying to help some red squirrels get established so I winter feed in my back yard. We've used these for 2 years now and while I don't notice many more red squirrels (maybe a couple) there are more everything else in our backyard. Fox squirrels, birds, rabbits, cats, dogs, skunks, everything except chipmunks which I actively eradicate. Chipmunks!!!!It is fun to go out a day after fresh snowfall with my daughters and ID animal tracks and paths thru the yard to and from the feeder. One full case of these corn logs lasts us all winter in a single tree-hung feeder.
