Easy install with included zip-ties. Sturdy. Non-obstructive view. I used a staple gun to attach the edges to wooden posts to cover the gaps between the railing and the exterior wall (see attached image).I wanted to be able to have my Nouveau come outside with me to get some fresh air. But he’s jumped off the patio three times (only 4.5’ off the ground). He’s strictly an indoor cat and is so easily startled by sudden noises or movements so him jumping off all willy-nilly is a no go! I don’t think he realizes how big it is out there! I specifically spent more money to order the Cardinal Deck shield because it was supposed to have a thicker boarder as represented in the images... It did NOT at all. It was actually just cut bird netting - and not even cut evenly so that some of the squares on the outside - didn't even close so you can't attach it evenly. This is a waste.. don't bother - you can get the same exact thing from other sellers for $7 or go to Home Depot or Lowes or Ace or Tractor Supply or any other hardware / lawn care store and get it for $5-8... Unfortunately I had an urgent need and needed to get something in to block little ones from falling through banisters... but not at all as advertised... Shop elsewhere and save some money.. We used this as a gate guard to prevent our cats from falling through the balcony rails, YES I'm THAT kind of cat mother... We have two cats and for some reason they LOVE going out on the balcony so much that one of my cats seriously 'begs' to go outside and won't stop meowing until you let him out. They are purely inside cats and we live on the top floor of an apartment building. I'm highly paranoid and know they have both stuck their fronts of their bodies out the rail and I don't think they understand depth perception as well as humans. I'm really afraid they will fall so I've been searching weeks for a good safety gate. I really liked the idea of SMALL squares, smaller than chicken wire but plastic. Lowes and Home Depot didn't seem to have any in stock so I went to Amazon. We bought this one just purely off the picture and really glad we did. It's about 4 feet high which is perfect (I still caught one caught that jumped UP on top of the rail and it scared me). I think the length of the railing was around 18 feet so I think we actually had a couple feet leftover of the fence. We put it up using a staple gun and some black zip ties(both also from Amazon) and it all worked perfectly. We used a little overlay to thoroughly cover the sides and bottom and it's been up for a couple months and seems to be holding up against any weather conditions so far. The material seems pretty durable, very strong and didn't tear very easy. It's even held up against a couple times against the cats trying to catch a couple bugs with their claws, it didn't tear the fence at all. I feel A LOT safer with them outside but still keep an eye on them since one wants to almost jump OVER the whole balcony. I’m really impressed by this deck shield. I purchased it because I live in a 3rd floor apartment and my 2 cats like to sneak out on the balcony with us. As you can see in the photos, the railings are a few inches wide, so my cats could stick their whole bodies through and look down at the ground below. This was making me nervous, so I started looking for solutions. This deck shield was inexpensive, but does the job well! It was super easy to install and came with everything you could need. It does the job! I purchased this for my apartment deck railing, since I have a small dog who likes to poke his head between the rails. He could easily jump out if he ever decided to try it. This isn’t quite tall enough to cover the full height, but I was able to install it where it was most needed. It comes with plenty of zip ties too! This is exactly what I needed! I had a small fence set up to keep my chickens out of my garden. But we had ooooonnne chicken that kept leaping over the fence. I didn’t want to redo my original fence, so I was looking for the “cat fence” type thing that wouldn’t be too visible but would still keep the chickens out. Boom! I purchases two of the 15 foot rolls for my balcony. I have two cats, and wanted to make sure they are as safe as possible. I looked at a lot of options, and I'm confident I found the right one. The two rolls came very well packed, with the ties and eyelet screws and simple, clear instructions. The black mesh doesn't block the view, you really see it if you're in the yard and looking at the house, and it was easy to install. This product was perfect solution for me. I have a very tiny dog and a 2nd floor balconey. My dog could easily go threw the rails but found this product, problem solved. Easy install with included zip ties. Squares about 1 cm each but does not impede my view. Recommend this product to keep your furbabies safe. This mesh was not as strong as I had hoped. Barely an upgrade over the mesh you use to keep birds out of trees. I did end up going to Home Depot, and contrary to a previous poster's comment. the mesh from Home Depot was far superior. Oh well. Lesson learned. Will check local before making a decision. I live near a huge park in a city rife with Raccoons, and I've had a huge problems with raccoons using my balcony more than I do. They were immune to everything else I tried, I swear the enjoyed bathing in the napalm-hot hot sauce I had been using as liquid repellent. We put this up and haven't seen them since. That is saying something, as we were used to having up to six trash pandas on there at a time.I would suggest reinforcing it if it's covering gaps in gates etc, especially if you're dealing with baby raccoons.
